Richmond Town Clerk Town of Southold Southold, L.I.,Now York 11971 Dear Mr. Richmond: We have your letter of June 16 requesting the installation of "SPEED ZONE AHEKD" signs on Route 25 east and west of the unincor- porated community of Southold. These signs are provided for use in advance of the beginning of authorized speed restrictions, where required by highway conditions, to inform motorist~ that they are entering a section of highway where the State-wide 50 MPH statutory limits has been reduced. Conditions justifying the use of this sign will generally be insufficient sight distance iu advance of the begin speed limit sign or excessive appoarch speeds. I am forwarding a copy of your letter to our District Traffic Engineer in Babylon and have requested that he review conditions at the above location to determine whether the installation of these signs would be justified.
