AWR/mr Albert W. ~ichmond Town Clerk CA~L CATALDO POLICE DEPARTMENT, TOWN OF SOUTHOLD PECONIC, NEW YORK, 11958 ..;,6s-:~.~,~, January lb, 19(>9 Town Board Town of Southold 16 South Street Greenport, New York llgl~J~ Gentlemen: In r~ference to ,,tour request for a survey relative to the desirability of a "Mo Parking Zone" located on Route 29 west of Greenport Village, I report the fo]lowing: The area ~n ~estion is opposite Campbellts Ford Agency and the traffic problem is os.sod by the parking of vehicles by the members of Campbell's Ford Agency on the north s~de of R¢~te 2~ opposite the business. There are two houses located in the immediat,e vicinity ou the north side of Route 25. Perseus leaving the driveways of these two homes would encounter a visibility problem in reference to determining oncoming westbound traffic. I have spoken with the owner of Campbell's Ford who informs me that there is insufficient parking area within the grounds of his business and therefore there is a necessity for these vehicles to park on the roadway during ~msiness hours. I have previously '~;tated that there is a definite visibility problem for vehicles exSting from the driveways previously mentioned. However, since parking is l'imited on the business property, we can exercise no control ow.~r that. If we were to institute a" No Parking" zone on the north side of the road, it would just force parking elsewhere and create a new problem. It is a question of judgement as to whether the decreased visibility for the small number of users of the two driveways iu question is offset by any new parking problem created on Route 2~. I feel that the matter may require a more detailed survey which I am not prepared mLo do. Ford feels that with these conditions that there is no possible justification for a "No Parking" sign. The area involved would be as fol]ows: from ~ew York State mile point marker 2~-O70]~-]6'~3, a distanl~ of ~J~O fe~.t west oF the mile point marker and 312 feet east of the m~/e point marker. It ~.s sug~{ested that the ~atf, er be rcfc~rred to the De[~artme~$ o£ Transportation, who, i.n t~e final analysis~ rm~st make the decision. RdspectfBlly submitted lift,I, ~17~',' ~ ', " ~ - CC:Fg
