It is pertinent to ~ention that effective October 1, 1964 the State-wide speed limit of 50 MPH w~ll be applicable within these areas until such ti~e as the new speed limit is, properly sign posted. the above action zs to be effective October 1~ 1964. The Town of Southold is,to install, operate and maintain, or remove, traffic-control devices in confore~ce with the ~anual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices of the State Traffic C~ieaion to complete this action. This new law becomes effective October 1, 1964. listed belew The a%t~abadxzz~zx~r 25 MPH area speed restrictions in yo~ town~ established by the Traffic Commission will be changed to 30 MPH on that date: This will necessitate a change by the to~n in the signs posting this area. We are advisiug you in advance so that there will be ample time to properly take care of the sign changes. Existing signs which are in good condition or are in stock may be used by placing a panel with the numerals 30 over the existing 25. If it is necessary to purchase new signs, we call your attention to the new standards for posting area speed limits in Sections 208.7 thru 208.9 (pages 36 thru 42) in the 196~ Manual e~ Uniform Traffic Control Devices, a copy of which has just recently been forwarded to your Town Superin- tendent of Highways.
