WHITE COMMISSIONER Ms. Judith Terry Southold Town Clerk Town Hall 53095 Main Road P.O. Box 1179 Southold, N.Y. 11971 Dear Mrs. Terry: Your February 12. 1992 - Request for speed reduction on Cedar Fields Drive & Bennett Lane - Greenport We have reviewed the request to establish linear 25 MPH speed limits on the above mentioned streets as well as a portion of Washington Avenue that exists within a new community basically bordered by CR 48 on the north, Middletown Road on the east, the Village of Greenport on the south, and Moore's Lane on the west. As this new community is within an existing Area Speed of 30 MPH we do not feel it appropriate to single out any particular street within an area and lower the speed limit of that street. Our inspection of the area has determined that 35 MPH Area Speed signs are posted on several of the streets south of CR 48 that are within the 30 MPH area. This seems to have been an oversight by the Town when the area of Eastern Shores was combined with the North Greenport area and taken out of the 35 MPH East Greenport and East Marion area. For your information we have attached the current area speed limits established in the Town of Southold along with two sketches showing tlhe old areas discussed in the letter and the new revised areas. When reposting the North Greenport area a 30 MPH area speed sign should be placed within 100' of Moore's Lane on Cedarfields Fields Drive at the entrance of the community.
