Dear Ms. Neville:
This will acknowledge receipt of your letter dated December 30, 1999, concerning traffic
conditions at the above-referenced location. Based on your request, we will initiate a traffic study at
this location. However, since we receive numerous requests for traffic safety evaluations
throughout Suffolk County, there will be some delay in progressing and completing this study. As
soon as we complete our investigation, we will advise you of our findings and recommendations.
In the interim, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.
Very truly yours,

Re: Intersect]on of Route 48 and Depot Lane
Dear Mr. Brashich:
I have reread your letter to me dated November 23~d several times. It seems to
me that you might be frustrated with the systems and procedures at your
disposal. I have questioned many people regarding a regular stop signal at the
above mentioned intersection - everyone is for it. Those long term East End
residents that told me of the long standing opposition to traffic lights could not
provide a reason for the resistance other than change is upsetting.
ACCIDENTS AND DEATH ARE UPSETTING.
I am not afraid to work - tell me what I need to do to change the delay time for
this traffic light from 3-4 years to 3-4 months. I cannot even consider waiting
years or a scenario whereby my children have children before this light is a
reality,
Please let me know your recommendations to speed this along; i.e.
demonstrations, petitions, meetings with decision makers, etc. I work three jobs
and do not have time to waste and therefore, my efforts must be poignant.
Please contact me upon receipt of this letter. I can be reached at the above
address or by telephone at 734,5315.

Dear Mr, Jacobs:
I have been communicating with Jean Cochran for a year concerning the traffic
on Route 48. A standard traffic signal is seriously needed at the intersection of
Route 48 and Depot Lane in Cutchogue. As a resident on the north side of
Route 48, I cannot cross Route 48 with my children on bike or foot without risking
our lives. The average vehicle travels at 70+ miles per hour on Route 48.
On Wednesday, October 27th I was told my children's school bus was hit while at
a full stop on Route 48 (intersection of Alvahs Lane). 29 children were on that
bus. People are going too fast on this road - a traffic light would help residents
cross 48 and traffic to slow down.
Please respond in writing as to my chances of seeing this done before a child is
seriously injured or killed.
Your name was referred to me by Kathy Kirsch Mequin. Thank you for
considering the importance of my request.
Sincere[y,
Bernadette M. Petersen
