Dear Mr. Murphy:
i read wit~ interest the item in last weeks Suffolk
"Times" ~gardlng a study you are requesting be made
concerning the installation of traffic signals at
the intersection of Cox Lane and Route 48.
On April £4th last, my wife and ! were involved in a
collision at this intersection resulting in a totalled
Cadillac, my svending three weeks in the hospital
recovering from broke~n ribs, my wife sent home to
recum~rate from broken ribs and a fractured oelvls
and suffering from oost accident trauma that I am
sure contributed to her death last month.
I feel certain that this accident would not have
occured if a traffic light had been in operation.
Good luck in your endeavors to h~ave this accomplished.

Dear Chief Winters:
Your January 30, 1986 Letter
Speed Limits on Sound Avenue
Mattituck
As requested, we reviewed Sound Avenue within the Town of Southold with a
view toward establishing a reduced speed limit similar to that established
on Sound Avenue in the Town of Riverhead. Observations and radar speed
checks have co~irmed that conditions in the two towns are similar.
Therefore, we are enclosing copies of New York State Orders establishing a
45 MPH speed limit on Sound Avenue from the Riverhead/Southold Town line
easterly to Cox Neck Road in the Town of Southold.
The Town of Southold will be responsible for installing the signs for this
speed limit. Your cooperation and patience in this matter is appreciated.
Very truly yours, .
