The second and third joist from the eastern edge of the residence, and directly below the first floor kitchen space required additional stiffening to accommodate penetrations made by the plumbing subcontractor during his roughing work. The specification delivered to the General Contractor, George Fallica, was as follows • Provide a 1/2" plywood splint at the upper section of the truss joist running from the underside of the top chord tangent to the traversing pipe, on both faces of the web. Fasten at each end of the pentration with screws for no less than 4" of bearing on either side of the pipe penetration. • Provide a 1 x 3 wood cross brace connecting both the top and bottom flanges of joist 2 and 3 with the opposite flange of each adjacent joist. This should occur at each side of the plumbing penetration and at each joist (joists 2 and 3). These two amendments to the framing will provide additional support and stiffening to accommodate the previously mentioned roughing penetrations. If you have any questions regard this inspection report, or need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly on my cell phone at 917-579-1814.
