WHEREAS, the National_Safety Council. is conducting a camRaign to reduce
the~annual:C~ristmas seasonaccident.toll which.!ast..year reaqhed a
total of 800 lives lost and 28,000 injuries d~r~ng the month of December
in:the Unite~ States, and
W~R. REAS, the National Conference for Religious Leaders.has asked that
all religious~nd ~ivic leaders.to cooperate in an all-out campaign
to-~revent tragedy on the highwaysxand in the homes o;f our country, and
WHEREAS, the Town of South~ld will conduct a Christmascampaign which
will demonstrate ~hat man is literally his brother's keeper;
THEREFORE, asSupervisor _of. this Town, I do hereby, on behalf of the
citizenry of the_~own._of Southold, declare enthusiastic, participation
in_~he. 1965 Ch=istmas Holiday safety Campaign and wish to call. upon
the'people. Dfour town~ observe the perio~ of December t t9 January 2
and to join in the effort to re~uce accidents d~ring this year's
Christmas-New Year. holidays. I:.therefore urge every, citizen to be
especially thoughtful of the rights of his.n~ighbor, an~ on the streets
and highway to drive by the golden rule, to set a good e~ample for other
drivers, to,observe all traffic, laws, and not to drive after drinking
--during the holiday season. In addition, we~must eliminate.hazards in the
home during the campaign,..and,at.~atl times ........
