LOADER, WITH RAKE ATTACHMENT CATERPILLAR MODEL 966G II OR EQUAL
NOTE: BIDDER MUST INDICATE ANY LACK OF COMPLIANCE WITH THE
MAJOR FEATURES/SYSTEMS DESCRIBED BELOW. ANY ITEM OR FEATURE

ENGINE
Engine must comply with EPA Tier II Emissions regulations Loader must be equipped with a
shutdown system for high water temperature and low oil pressure to guard against engine
damage. Engine must be a product of the loader manufacturer. The diesel engine for the unit
shall have a minimum of 6 cylinders with a total minimum displacement of 629 cubic inches, be
a 4-stroke cycle, turbo charged and liquid cooled. The fuel system shall be direct injected with
individual adjustment free injection pumps and valves. The water pump shall be gear driven. The
electrical system shall be 24-volt with a 65- amp alternator. The engine shall develop flywheel
horsepower of no less than 246 at 2150 rpm with all engine accessories operating. The engine
shall have a 110-volt coolant heater· The radiator shall be multiple row, trash resistant with
replaceable sections with fin density of no more that 6 steel fins per inch. Fan must be
hydraulically driven and controlled by engine coolant temperature and transmission temperature.
Pistons must be of two-piece design and cylinders must be wet sleeve design. Engine oil change
periods are to be no less than 500 hours apart. Engine must have equipment to supply engine
lube oil pressure before engine is started. Engine must be a product of the loader manufacturer.
TRANSMISSION
The transmission for the unit shall be a planetary type, power shift type capable of providing a
maximum forward speed to 23 mph. The transmission shall have 4 forward and 4 reverse speeds.
The transmission shall have special modulation system to allow speed and direction changes
under full load. The torque converter shall be single stage, single phase type. Four-wheel drive
shall be constant. The transnfission control shall be one lever. The transmission shall be equipped
with automatic shifting ability. The left brake pedal shall neutralize transmission as well as rake
the machine. The manufacturer of the loader shall manufacture transmission. Transmission
control shall be rotating type located under the steering wheel. Torque converter stator must be
free wheeling type.

STEERING
The unit steering shall be center point articulation. The steering cylinders shall be controlled by a
steering wheel operated metering pump. Steering cylinders shall be a minimum 4.0-inch bore
diameter and shall be activated by a vane type, hydraulic pump. The steering column shall be
adjustable. The front and rear wheels must track at all times. Steering angle to be no more than
37°. Steering wheel shall be full 360° type. Steering pump shall function only when steering is
required. A supplemental steering system must be provided.
BRAKES
The service brakes shall be four wheel, hydraulically activated wet disc type and located inside
differential housing. The brakes shall be adjustment free with no asbestos material. The parking
brake shall be a mechanical shoe type mounted on the transmission output shaft. The emergency
brake shall a ply automatically when oil pressure drops to an m~safe level. An audible alarm will
be activated also. Brake may be manually applied if need arises. No air compressor or air
reservoir will be allowed. Brake system shall have a wear indicator system to alert technician to
the wear status.
FINAL DRIVES
The final drives shall be planetary type located in each axle housing adjacent to the differential
housing and shall use full floating bronze sleeve type bearings. Differentials shall be
conventional type.
HYDRAULICS
The pumps must be vane type. The pump output shall have a maximum 99 GPM at 2111 RPM
and I000 psi. The bucket cycle time shall be a maximum of 10.2 seconds. The lift cylinder bore
shall be a minimum of 7.0 inches and the stroke shall be a minimum of 33 inches. The hydraulic
system shall function on biodegradable type oil, if necessary. All bucket functions shall be
accomplished with a maximum of 3 hydraulic cylinders. The tilt cylinder must extend to effect
bucket roll back and must be located above the loader litt arms. Cooler must be swing-out style.
Remote pressure tape must be provided to facilitate serviceman accessibility. A third hydraulic
valve must be available to operate any front mounted equipment requiring hydraulic power.
FRA/VlE
The unit frame must be joined, midway by double tapered roller bearings in both the upper and
lower hitch points. The bucket lift arms shall have a ride control system to stabilize ride. The unit
shall be equipped with front drive shaft guard to protect rotating members, axle seal guard,
perforated engine enclosures, extended rear bumper, hinged radiator guard and
engine/transmission guards. Front frame must have lift cylinder baffles to reduce packing under
the lift cylinders proper. Exclusive of coupler, lift and tilt linkage lube points may not exceed 13
in number.

The operator's cab shall be mounted on rear of unit. The cab shall be sound suppressed; ROPS
type as an integral part of cab and meet all OSHA and MESA requirements. The cab shall
include tinted glass, front and rear windshield wipers, dome lights, suspension seat, inside and
outside mounted rear view mirrors, one lockable entry door, floor mat, fire extinguisher, air
conditioning and heater. A/C unit must utilize F134A refrigerant, not Freon. Cab must have AM-
FM radio, including antenna. Unit shall have rotating amber beacon on roof and an additional
flashing amber light to be energized when back-up alarm is being used. All cab glass must be fiat
to provide ease of local procurement. Cab must have two doors for entry and exit purposes.
BUCKET
The unit shall be equipped with a general-purpose style bucket with a heaped capacity of 5.5
cubic yards. The bucket shall have a bolt-on-cutting-edge and bolt-on-skid plates. Must be no
wider than 10 feet. Bucket must be a product of the loader manufacturer and have a coupling
receiver.
Shall have quick coupling ability using drip-free hose connections. Rake shall provide a raking
width of 130" and an overall width not to exceed 133". Bottom tines are to be flame cut type, no
more than 10 in number and be spacedl2" apart. Top clamps are to be 6 in number with two 4"
diameter hydraulic cylinder operating 3 clamps each. These clamps must allow an opening width
of at least 94" when fully opened. Rake ends must be partially open to allow compost to extend
beyond the raking width if need be. Rake weight to be at least 8000 lbs. This rake must allow the
operator of the loader as much visibility as possible. Rake shall also be equipped with a holt-on
screen skin that will cover the inside of the bottom half of the rake. Screen openings shall be 2
inches.
SERVICING
The engine compartment shall provide easy access to oil filter, dipstick and electrical shut-off
switch, engine oil filters. All of service entries must be vandal protected. Fan must be
hydraulically driven. Engine cowling must be hydraulically raised to allow complete access to all
engine components. This cowling must be non-metallic and have an auxiliary method of raising
and lowering.
TIRES
The tires shall be 26.5 x 25 Lo3 Michelin -20 ply.

to the loader in no more than three locations, it must also attach to the implements in no less than
four locations. Coupler must have provisions for hydraulic outlets providing both in and out flow
directions. Power to operate this coupler must be independent of any existing hydraulic circuits
presently on the loader.

COLOR
The trait shall be painted standard color of the manufacturer.
WARRANTY
Shall be full, all items, parts and labor for 6 month fi.om date of delivery. When the six- month
period is reached, an additional warranty period will begin, that being for a 30- month period, not
to exceed 5000 machine hours. This warranty will include parts and labor on the power train
only. Successful bidder must supply an oil-sampling program to extend through the 5000-hour
period at no cost to the Town. The taking ofoil samples will be the responsibility of the Town of
Southold.
PARTS AND SERVICE
All bidders must be able to supply replacement parts within 48 hours of being ordered and must
have a technician on the Disposal Site within 24 hours of being notified that one is needed. If
either of these requirements is not met, the Town may impose a penalty of $100.00 per day until
requirements are met.
DELIVERY
Machine must be delivered to the Town of Southold Compost Facility, Rt. 48, Cutchogue, NY
within 60 days of placement of order.
RE-PURCHASE REQUIREMENT
All bidders must present re-purchase figures that the Town may utilize at the end of any of three
time and/or hour periods. Those period are as follows:
C. At the third year of ownership or 4200 machine hours attained.
C. At the fourth year of ownership or 5600 machine hours attained.
C. At the fifth year of ownership or 7000 machine hours attained.
Successful bidder, at the time of delivery must supply a performance bond in the amount
of the fifth year or 7000 hour repurchase period, to assure the Town that Bidder will be able to
fulfill his or her obligation. If and when the repurchase is exercised, the machine must be in
nmning condition and have at least 40% tire life remaining. This repurchase requirement is to be
utilized only if the Town so desires. The required bond will be held by the Town Clerk.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR A NEW 246HP ARTICULATED WHEEL
LOADER, WITH RAKE ATTACHMENT CATERPILLAR MODEL 966G II OR EQUAL
NOTE: BIDDER MUST INDICATE ANY LACK OF COMPLIANCE WITH THE
MAJOR FEATURES/SYSTEMS DESCRIBED BELOW. ANY ITEM OR FEATURE
NOT INCLUDED MUST BE SO NOTED, AND A NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION GIVEN

ENGINE
Engine must comply with EPA Tier II Emissions regulations Loader must be equipped with a
shutdown system for high water temperature and Iow oil pressure to guard against engine
damage. Engine must be a product of the loader manufacturer. The diesel engine for the trait
shall have a minimum of 6 cylinders with a total minimum displacement of 629 cubic inches, be
a 4-stroke cycle; turbo charged and liquid cooled. The fuel system shall be direct injected with
individual adjustment free injection pumps and valves. The water pump shall be gear driven. The
electrical system shall be 24-volt with a 65- amp alternator. The engine shall develop flywheel
horsepower of no less than 246 at 2150 rpm with all engine accessories operating. The engine
shall have a 110-volt coolant heater. The radiator shall be multiple row, trash resistant with
replaceable sections with fin density of no more that 6 steel fins per inch. Fan must be
hydraulically driven and controlled by engine coolant temperature and transmission temperature.
Pistons must be of two-piece design and cylinders must be wet sleeve design. Engine oil change
periods are to be no less than 500 hours apart. Engine must have equipment to supply engine
lube oil pressure before engine is started. Engine must be a product of the loader manufacturer.
TRANSMISSION
The transmission for the unit shall be a planetary type, power shiR type capable of providing a
maximum forward speed to 23 mph. The transmission shall have 4 forward and 4 reverse speeds.
The transmission shall have special modulation system to allow speed and direction changes
under full load. The torque converter shall be single stage, single phase type. Four-wheel drive
shall be constant. The transmission control shall be one lever. The transmission shall be equipped
with automatic shifting ability. The left brake pedal shall neutralize transmission as well as rake
the machine. The manufacturer of the loader shall manufacture transmission. Transmission
control shall be rotating type located under the steering wheel. Torque converter stator must be
free wheeling type.

STEERING
The unit steering shall be center point articulation. The steering cylinders shall be controlled by a
steering wheel operated metering pump. Steering cylinders shall be a minimum 4.0-inch bore
diameter and shail be activated by a vane type, hydraulic pump. The steering column shall be
adjustable. The front and rear wheels must track at ail times. Steering angle to be no mom than
37°. Steering wheel shall be full 360° type. Steering pump shall function only when steering is
required. A supplementai steering system must be provided.
BRAKES
The service brakes shall be four wheel, hydraulically activated wet disc type and located inside
differential housing. The brakes shall be adjustment free with no asbestos material. The parking
brake shall be a mechanicai shoe type mounted on the mmsmission output shaft. The emergency
brake shall a ply automaticaily when oil pressure drops to an unsafe level. An audible alarm will
be activated also. Brake may be manually applied if need arises. No air compressor or air
reservoir will be allowed. Brake system shall have a wear indicator system to alert technician to
the wear status.
FINAL DRIVES
The finai drives shall be planetary type located in each axle housing adjacent to the differential
housing and shall use full floating bronze sleeve type bearings. Differentials shall be
conventional type.
HYDRAULICS
The pumps must be vane type. The pump output shall have a maximum 99 GPM at 2111 RPM
and 1000 psi. The bucket cycle time shall be a maximum of 10.2 seconds. The lift cylinder bore
shall be a minimum of 7.0 inches and the stroke shail be a minimum of 33 inches. The hydraulic
system shail function on biodegradable type oil, if necessary. All bucket functions shail be
accomplished with a maximum of 3 hydraulic cylinders. The tilt cylinder must extend to effect
bucket roll back and must be located above the loader lift arms. Cooler must be swing-out style.
Remote pressure tape must be provided to facilitate serviceman accessibility. A third hydraulic
valve must be available to operate any front mounted equipment requiring hydraulic power.
FRAME
The unit frame must be joined, midway by double tapered roller bearings in both the upper and
lower hitch points. The bucket lift arms shall have a fide control system to stabilize ride. The unit
shall be equipped with fi'ont drive shaft guard to protect rotating members, axle seal guard,
perforated engine enclosures, extended rear bumper, hinged radiator guard and
engine/transmission guards. Front frame must have lift cylinder baffles to reduce packing under
the lift cylinders proper. Exclusive &coupler, lift and tilt linkage lube points may not exceed 13
in number.

The operator's cab shall be mounted on rear of trait. The cab shall be sound suppressed; ROPS
type as an integral part of cab and meet all OSHA and MESA requirements. The cab shall
include tinted glass, fi'ont and rear windshield wipers, dome lights, suspension seat, inside and
outside mounted rear view mirrors, one lockable entry door, floor mat, fire extinguisher, air
conditioning and heater. A/C unit must utilize F134A refrigerant, not Freou. Cab must have AM-
FM radio, including antenna. Unit shall have rotating amber beacon on roof and an additional
flashing amber light to be energized when back-up alarm is being used. All cab glass must be flat
to provide ease of local procurement. Cab must have two doors for entry and exit purposes.
BUCKET
The unit shall be equipped with a general-purpose style bucket with a heaped capacity of 5.5
cubic yards. The bucket shall have a bolt-on-cutting-edge and bolt-on-skid plates. Must be no
wider than 10 feet. Bucket must be a product of the loader manufacturer and have a coupling
receiver.
Shall have quick coupling ability using drip-free hose connections. Rake shall provide a raking
width of 130" and an overall width not to exceed 133". Bottom tines are to be flame cut type, no
more than 10 in number and be spacedl2" apart. Top clamps are to be 6 in number with two 4"
diameter hydraulic cylinder operating 3 clamps each. These clamps must allow an opening width
of at least 94" when fully opened. Rake ends must be partially open to allow compost to extend
beyond the raking width if need be. Rake weight to be at least 8000 lbs. This rake must allow the
operator of the loader as much visibility as possible. Rake shall also be equipped with a bolt-on
screen skin that will cover the inside of the bottom half of the rake. Screen openings shall be 2
inches.
SERVICING
The engine compartment shall provide easy access to oil filter, dipstick and electrical shut-off
switch, engine oil filters. All of service entries must be vandal protected. Fan must be
hydraulically driven. Engine coming must be hydraulically raised to allow complete access to all
engine components. This cowling must be non-metallic and have an auxiliary method of raising
and lowering.
TIRES
The tires shall be 26.5 x 25 L-3 Michelin -20 ply.

COLOR
The unit shall be painted standard color of the manufacturer.
WARRANTY
Shall be full, all items, parts and labor for 6 month from date of delivery. When the six- month
period is reached, an additional warranty period will begin, that being for a 30- month period, not
to exceed 5000 machine hours. This warranty will include parts and labor on the power train
only. Successful bidder must supply an oil-sampling program to extend through the 5000-hour
period at no cost to the Town. The taking ofoil samples will be the responsibility of the Town of
Southold.
PARTS AND SERVICE
All bidders must be able to supply replacement parts within 48 hours of being ordered and must
have a technician on the Disposal Site within 24 hours &being notified that one is needed. If
either of these requirements is not met, the Town may impose a penalty of $100.00 per day until
requirements are met.
DELIVERY
Machine must be delivered to the Town of Southold Compost Facility, Rt. 48, Cutchogue, NY
within 60 days of placement of order.
RE-PURCHASE REQUIREMENT
All bidders must present re-purchase figures that the Town may utilize at the end of any of three
time and/or hour periods. Those period are as follows:
C. At the third year of ownership or 4200 machine hours attained.
C. At the fourth year of ownership or 5600 machine hours atta'med.
C. At the ill°th year of ownership or 7000 machine hours attained.
Successful bidder, at the time of delivery must supply a performance bond in the amount
of the fifth year or 7000 hour repurchase period, to assure the Town that Bidder will be able to
fulfill his or her obligation. If and when the repurchase is exercised, the machine must be in
rtmning condition and have at least 40% tire life remaining. This repurchase requirement is to be
utilized only if the Town so desires. The required bond will be held by the Town Clerk.

flashing amber light to be energized when back-up alarm is being used. All cab glass must be flat
to provide ease of local procurement. Cab must have two doors for entry and exit purposes.
BUCKET
The unit shall be equipped with a general-purpose style bucket with a heaped capacity of 5.5
cubic yards. The bucket shall have a bolt-on-cutting-edge and bolt-on-skid plates. Must be no
wider than 10 feet, Bucket must be a product of the loader manufacturer and have a coupling
receiver.
Shall have quick coupling ability using drip-free hose connections. Rake shall provide a raking
width of 130" and an overall width not to exceed 133". Bottom tines are to be flame cut type, no
more than 10 in number and be spacedl2" apart. Top clamps are to be 6 in number with two 4"
diameter hydraulic cylinder operating 3 clamps each. These clamps must allow an opening width
of at least 94" when fully opened. Rake ends must be partially open to allow compost to extend
beyond the raking width if need be. Rake weight to be at least 8000 lbs. This rake must allow the
operator of the loader as much visibility as possible. Rake shall also be equipped with a bolt-on
screen skin that will cover the inside of the bottom half of the rake. Screen openings shall be 2
inches.
SERVICING
The engine compartment shall provide easy access to oil filter, dipstick and electrical shut-off
switch, engine oil filters. All of service entries must be vandal protected. Fan must be
hydraulically driven. Engine cowling must be hydraulically raised to allow complete access to all
engine components. This cowling must be non-metallic and have an auxiliary method of raising
and lowering.
TIRES
The tires shall be 26.5 x 25 L-3 Michelin -20 ply.

COLOR
The unit shall be painted standard color of the manufacturer.
WARRANTY
Shall be full, all items, parts and labor for 6 month from date of delivery. When the six- month
period is reached, an additional warranty period will begin, that being for a 30- month period, not
to exceed 5000 machine hours. This warranty will include parts and labor on the power train
only. Successful bidder must supply an oil-sampling program to extend through the 5000-hour
period at no cost to the Town. The taking ofoil samples will be the responsibility of the Town of
Southold.
PARTSANDSERVICE
All bidders must be able to supply replacement parts within 48 hours of being ordered and must
have a technician on the Disposal Site within 24 hours of being notified that one is needed. If
either of these requirements is not met, the Town may impose a penalty of $100.00 per day until
requirements are met.
DELIVERY
Machine must be delivered to the Town of Southold Compost Facility, Rt. 48, Cutchogue, NY
within 60 days of placement of order.
RE-PURCHASE REQUIREMENT
All bidders must present re-purchase figures that the Town may utilize at the end of any of three
time and/or hour periods. Those period are as follows:
C. At the third year of ownership or 4200 machine hours attained.
C. At the fourth year of ownership or 5600 machine hours attained.
C. At the fifth year of ownership or 7000 machine hours attained.
Successful bidder, at the time of delivery must supply a performance bond in the amount

running condition and have at least 40% tire life remaining. This repurchase requirement is to be
utilized only if the Town so desires. The required bond will be held by the Town Clerk.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR A NEW 246HP ARTICULATED WHEEL LOADER, WITH
RAKE A']-I'ACH M ENT

ENGINE
Engine must comply with EPA Tier II Emissions regulations. Loader must be equipped
with a shutdown system for high water temperature and Iow oil pressure to guard against
engine damage. Engine must be a product of the loader manufacturer. The diesel
engine for the unit shall have a minimum of 6 cylinders with a total minimum displacement
of 629 cubic inches, be a 4-stroke cycle, turbo charged and liquid cooled. The fuel
system shall be direct injected with individual adjustment free injection pumps and valves.
The water pump shall be gear driven. The electrical system shall be 24-volt with a 65-
amp alternator. The engine shall develop flywheel horsepower of no less than 246 at
2150 rpm with all engine accessories operating. The engine shall have a 110-volt coolant
heater. The radiator shall be multiple row, trash resistant with replaceable ~ections with
fin density of no more that 6 steel fins per inch. Fan must be hydraulically driven and
controlled by engine coolant temperature and transmission temperature. Pistons must be
of two-piece design and cylinders must be wet sleeve design. Engine oil change periods
are to be no tess than 500 hours apart. Engine must have equipment to supply engine
lube oil pressure before engine is started. Engine must be a product of the loader
manufacturer.
TRANSMISSION
The transmission for the unit shall be a planetary type, power shift type capable of
providing a maximum forward speed to 23 mph. The transmission shall have 4 forward
and 4 reverse speeds. The transmission shall have special modulation system to allow
speed and direction changes under full load. The torque converter shall be single stage,
single phase type. Four-wheel drive shall be constant. The Transmission control shall be
one lever. The transmission shall be equipped with automatic shifting ability. The left
brake pedal shall neutralize transmission as well as brake the machine. The
manufacturer of the loader shall manufacture transmission. Transmission control shall be
rotating type located under the steering wheel. Torque converter stator must be free
wheeling type.
STEERING
The unit steering shall be center point articulation. The steering cylinders shall be
controlled by a steering wheel operated metering pump. Steering cylinders shall be a
minimum 4.0-inch bore diameter and shall be activated by a vane type, hydraulic pump.
The steering column shall be adjustable. The front and rear wheels must track at all
times. Steering angle to be no more than 37°. Steering wheel shall be full 360° type.
Steering pump shall function only when steering is required. A supplemental steering
system must be provided.
BRAKES
The service brakes shall be four wheel, hydraulically activated wet disc type and located
inside differential housing. The brakes shall be adjustment free with no asbestos
material. The parking brake shall be a mechanical shoe type mounted on the
transmission output shaft. The emergency brake shall apply automatically when oil
pressure drops to an unsafe level. An audible alarm will be activated also. Brake may be
manually applied if need arises. No air compressor or air reservoir will be allowed. Brake
system shall have a wear indicator system to alert technicians to the wear status.

FINAL DRIVES
The final drives shall be planetary type located in each axle housing adjacent to the
differential housing and shall use full floating bronze sleeve type bearings. Differentials
shall be conventional type,
HYDRAULICS
The pumps must be vane type. The pump output shall have a maximum 99 GPM at 2111
RPM and 1000 psi. The bucket cycle time shall be a maximum of 10.2 seconds. The lift
cylinder bore shall be a minimum of 7.0 inches and the stroke shall be a minimum of 33
inches. The hydraulic system shall function on biodegradable type oil, if necessary. All
bucket functions shall be accomplished with a maximum of 3 hydraulic cylinders. The tilt
cylinder must extend to effect bucket roll back and must be located above the loader lift
arms. Cooler must be swing-out style. Remote pressure tape must be provided to
facilitate serviceman accessibility. A third hydraulic valve must be available to operate
any front mounted equipment requiring hydraulic power.
FRAME
The unit frame must be joined, midway by double tapered roller bearings in both the
upper and lower hitch points. The bucket lift arms shall have a ride control system to
stabilize ride. The unit shall be equipped with front drive shaft guard to protect rotating
members, axle seal guard, perforated engine enclosures, extended rear bumper, hinged
radiator guard and engine/transmission guards. Front frame must have lift cylinder
baffles to reduce packing under the lift cylinders proper. Exclusive of coupler, lift and tilt
linkage lube points may not exceed 13 in number.
CAB
The operator's cab shall be mounted on rear of unit. The cab shall be sound suppressed;
ROPS type as an integral part of cab and meet all OSHA and MESA requirements. The
cab shall include tinted glass, front and rear windshield wipers, dome lights, suspension
seat, inside and outside mounted rear view mirrors, one Iockable entry door, floor mat,
fire extinguisher, air conditioning and heater. NC unit must utilize F134A refrigerant, not
Freon. Cab must have AM-FM radio, including antenna. Unit shall have rotating amber
