But first I would ask you all to rise and join in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Thank you and before we move further into our very brief agenda this afternoon, I would ask that Lyn Stepanek come forward. We have a special presentation, we would like to recognize Lyn and those of you who live here on Fishers Island know all about Lyn but it is an opportunity for the Town Board to recognize Lyn on behalf her work here on Fishers Island. We have this the proclamation which reads as follows: Supervisor and Town Board of the Town of Southold wish to pay tribute to LYN STEPANEK who is retiring on September 8, 2005 from her position with the Fishers Island Ferry District; and W H E R E A S : LYN has been associated with the Ferry District for 18 years, initially part-time, and became a year-round reservationist in 2002, a dedicated and faithful employee who never took a sick day and rarely took a vacation; and W H E R E A S : throughout her career with the Ferry District LYN took her responsibilities very seriously, available at any time of day or night to supply ferry reservations for emergencies, helping the reservationists to understand the importance of promptness, and turning the entire reservation process into a social event; and W H E R E A S : LYN has become part of the fabric of Fishers Island Ferry District and will be sorely missed by the public and her co-workers; now, therefore, be it R E S O L V E D: that the Town Board of the Town of Southold extends congratulations to LYN STEPANEK and sincere warm wishes for a long and happy retirement. We make a point of keeping this agenda light and today we have it especially light because we do have a power point presentation I think is going to be of interest not only to Fishers Island residents but to those of you who work with Southold Town and other county agencies as well. Before we move forward any further, I want to note that we do have a long list of county, state, town and I believe we even have a representative or two of federal government with us here today. But I am not going to take the time to go through all of the folks that are here. Any residents of Fishers Island who has a question about who may be here, if you have a specific issue related to a certain agency, please address me after this meeting and I will point you in the right direction of who to speak with. With that being said, we have one resolution on the agenda today. Prior to moving forward with this resolution, I offer the floor to anybody that would care to address the Town Board. (No response) We will move forward then. I will call this meeting to a close and I will introduce Miss…yes, sir? Ah, thank you. I knew that we didn’t come over here in vain. I just ask that you perhaps come forward so that we can get your name and place of residence for our records. WARD MURPHY: Hi, my name is Ward Murphy. I had a quick question here. We have what Page 3 August 10, 2005 Town of Southold Board Meeting is essentially called a work-out track….okay, we have a work-out track that I believe was approved and is budgeted for and we are sort of, the person who was the point person here on the Island, his wife is sick and he hasn’t been up here and we were wondering where it sort of falls in to the government’s, who is in charge of over there? SUPERVISOR HORTON: That is a great question. Thank you for bringing it up. Actually, if I could ask Jim McMahon. Jim, would you come forward for a moment and just give a brief overview of exactly where we are at, the funding is in place and the Town Board is committed to the project. Jim McMahon is the director of Public Works and will offer an explanation to your question. JIM MCMAHON, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS: I don’t know how anything on Fishers Island gets anything done because I tried probably for two and a half years. We have got the exercise equipment but to get the material for that track over to Fishers Island has been a monumental job. There aren’t contractors that are really willing, it doesn’t fit on a barge, it calls for a barge. And contractors, as many as we have called, you know, we are talking about 85 truckloads of material from New London to Fishers Island and then getting it back and then we think, we have talked to a guy who has been doing work on Fishers Island that is actually from Southold, he is getting a price to rent a Cross Sound Ferry for as long as it takes to get the material from New London over here and I hope this fall we will have the material over here so that we can finally get this project done. On the other hand, the tennis courts were approved at the last Town Board meeting, the contractor was going to be here today but the weather forecast on the mainland anyway called for rain and the material can’t be put down in the rain but hopefully, by the end of the week, the tennis courts will be started and within the week we will have two new, resurfaced tennis courts. MR. MURPHY: (Inaudible) MR. MCMAHON: Yeah, well, the problem of bringing that ferry over, you are talking about bringing it over… MR. MURPHY: (inaudible) MR. MCMAHON: The price of the original, when we did our estimate, the price was basically to get it to New London. They didn’t put into the equation getting it from New London to here and then having the truck go back to New London. He had a hard time planning that. MR. MURPHY: It is simply a matter of accountability on our end (inaudible) MR. MCMAHON: (inaudible) to actually rent the Cross Sound Ferry, to get eight or ten trucks on the ferry at one time and (inaudible) from New London. SUPERVISOR HORTON: As they said, the point is, it is a matter of getting the project on the ball (inaudible) we will make sure that that happens. Page 4 August 10, 2005 Town of Southold Board Meeting MR. MURPHY: Thank you. SUPERVISOR HORTON: Thank you, too. Would anybody else care to address the Board on town related matters? (No response) Okay, with that being said, motion to adjourn this meeting. Moved by Councilman Wickham, seconded by Councilman Ross, it was RESOLVED that this meeting of the Southold Town Board be and hereby is declared adjourned. * * * * * Elizabeth A.
