Wright, AIA/NCARB Architect 71 New Street Huntington Village, NY 11743 Re: NYS Residential Code- Combustion Air Dear Richard: I have prepared this letter in response to your inquiry concerning the New York State Code requirements for combustion air drawn from a garage joined to the furnace room. As I understand the former code under which you filed, it is not strictly forbidden to do this. If you should do so, you must have a 250 sq. in. opening at the top and at the bottom of the furnace room to comply with the requirement for a boiler of 249 mbh input capacity. This is assuming that the garage has adequate ventilation which is a reasonable assumption. In addition to reviewing the code I spoke to Courtney Nation of the NYS Code Interpretation and he agreed that it was not strictly forbidden to do this.
