The Annual Fishers Island Meeting of the Southold Town Board was
held on Tuesday, August 22, 1967. The meeting was held at the Fish-
ers Island School and was called to order by Supervisor Lester M.
Albertson at l:00 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor
Albertson; Justices Clark, Tuthill and Edwards; Superintendent of
~ighways Dean; TOwn Attorney Tasker; Town Clerk Richmond; officials
of the State, County and Town and guests and residents of Fishers
Island.
Moved by Justice Edwards; seconded by Justice Clark;
RESOLVED: That the reading of the minutes of the last meeting held
August 8, 1967, be dispensed with at,is meeting.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-SUpervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest
and Valentine; Justices Tuthitli~lark and Edwards.
Moved by Councilman Valentine; seconded by Councilman Demarest;
RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is directed°t6 reques~
the Long Island Lighting Company to install one (1) 400 MVOH street
light on NYTCO pole ~489, Route 25, west of Greenport, N.Y. and one
(1) 175 MVOH street light on NYTCO pole ~3, corner of Pierce and
Oak Street, Eugene Heights, Cutchogue, New York.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Councilm~n Demarest
and Valentine; Justices Tuthill, Clark and Edwards.
James Thurrott inquired why a proposed dredging project in West Harbor
had not been star~ed. Supervisor Albertson explained that the only
spoil area available for the dredged materials had been purchased
by James Noyer, Jr. who was opposed to the dredging operation in that
area. Mr. Albertson advised that if the residents could find a suit-
able location for use as a spoil area, the project might still~be '
accomplished.
Mrs. Donald Sinclair asked for clarification on Connecticut's pro-
posal to annex Fishers Island. Supervisor Albertson explained that
he was not familiar with the mechanics of such a procedure, but he
assured the people of Fishers Island that if they indicated over-
whelmingly that they favored annexation from Southold Town, it wo~ld
be considered by the Board, but, on the Other hand, if they showed
a desire to remain a part of Southold, the Board would do everything
in it's power to keep it that way.
Supervisor Albertson of the Town of Southold, Evans Griffing of the
Town of Shelter Island and County Executive H. Lee Dennison discussed
the pros and cons of splitting the County of Suffolk.
Adjournment was at 1:50 P.M. at which time a~l were invited t6 the
Legion Hall for a light lunch and coffee served by the ladies of
Fishers Island. A rising vote of thanks was given the ladies.
