Albertson, at Greenport, New York, on Tuesday, May 9, 1967 with the following present: Supervisor Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Valentine; Justices Tuthill and Clark; Superintendent of Highways Dean and Town Clerk Richmond. Albertson, 16 South Street, Greenport, New York, on Tuesday, May 23, 1967 at 3:00 P.M. Vote 8f Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Albertson; Cou~ilmen Demarest and Valentine; Jsstices Tuthii1 and Clark. At 3:00 P.M. in accordance with a notice published according to law, bids were opened for proposals for furnishing to the Town of Southold one-{l)-second hand Willys Jeep (or equal), the mileage not to exceed 4,000 miles. The following bid was received and held for study: VAil Bros. Inc.- ....... $1,695.00 Moved by Councilman Valentine; seconded by Councilmen Demarest; WHEREAS, the Board reported that the lowest bid for the Jeep was submitted by Vail Bros. Inc., now, therefore, be it RESOLVED: That Lester M. Albertson be and he hereby is directed to enter into a contract with Vail Bros. Inc. for the purchase of one (1) second hand jeep (or equal) for use by the Bay Constable at a ~ost of $1695.00. Moved by Councilman Valentinel seconded by Councilman Demarest; RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is requested to contact the State Traffic Commission to request a 35 mile per hour speed limit on all roads in the Pequash Avenue and Fleets Neck area, Cutchogue, N.Y. Moved~ by Councilman Valentine; seconded by Councilman Demarest; RESOLVED: That the following.rules and regulations for Lif~ Guards of ~the Town of Southold be adoped: 1967 Hours: 12 noon to 6 P.M. You are to abide by all rules and regulations as long as you are ~mployed as a lifeguard for the Town of Southold. The regulations listed below are for the purpose of maintaining a code of conduct on the Southold Town Beaches that will insure the utmost of safety to the public. LIFE GUARD DUTIES AND RESPONSIB~AITIES 1. Guards are to be (1) on the stand; (2) in the water; (3) in the boat. 2. The swimming area should be in full view at all times. This rules out sitting inside the shack. 3. The lifeguard is responsi~ble for the safety, of all bathers. 4. Be alert and watchful at all times. 5. Bathing_area is to be kept free from fishermen. (a) Bathing area is about 275 feet on a beach having one life- guard assi~ned~ 6.-The area around the lifeguard stand at Town Beach shoul~ be staked ~off each day as soon as the i~-f~g~ard can get the equipment out. Persons ~ther than the lifeguards are not to be in this area. 7. Lifeguards ~re to keetp their beaches cleaned each day. The reliefman cleans the beach ~here ie is on duty. 8. The lifeguard is responsible.for all equipment; boat; oars and oarlocks; lifeline and lifering; first aid.kit; pith helmet; whistle; umbrella; rake; lifeguard stand and signs when he ~s on the beach. 9. In alt cases-other-than minor.: quts remind bathers to see their family physician. 15. NO doqs are allowed on the be~ch. - ~ CQNDUCT OF LIFE GUARD A. Do not sit with friends, relatives, or girl friends on the hca-ch or in a vehicle 2. Avoid chatting'with people fro~ the s~and, since-this is a distraction. 3. Avoid any type of behavior ~hich would be offensive to the publi~ s~ch, as wrestling, 'cl0~hihg, excessive blowing of Whistle. - -~- 4. Keep all beach patrons off the stand ..... -~ 5. Behavior outside of beac~ hours could affect present and .future posi~ons. 6. Drinking, intoxicating beverages:while on duty is forbidde~ 7. ~ lifeguard may not use force on any patron on the beach. - _ ~ EQUIPMENT - - 1. Emergency phone number of police will be posted:inside-phon~. 2. Since-lifeguards are not'expe~hto be policemen. Mr. D'Emo appeared before the Board 'requesting a chahge of zone' on the Wolf-Blados pr.operty as soon as possible. Since this change would hold .~up-the sale of said property, the Board ~gr~ed to recess the meeting until the recommendation of the Planning Board could be received, at which time a date could be set for a Hearing. The Town Board studied the Head ~Start Budget. Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Councilman Demarest; RESOLVED: That General Bills in the amounts of $866.20 and $12,078~63; Fishers Island.Ferry District Bills in the amount of $40,818.61; Lighting District Bills in the amount of $3,918.30 and..H~ighway ~ills in the ~mount~of $6,984.05 be and the same are hereby ordered paid.
