The $out~Old Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Albert M. Martocchia
at Greenport, New York, on August 26, 1969 with the following present:

RESOLVED: That the minutes of August 12, 1969 be and they'hereby are

RESOLVED~ That the next meeting of the Town Board will be held at the

RESOLVED: That Supt. of Highways Dean of the Town of Southold, be author-
lzed to advertise for bids and to purchse from the lowest responsible
bidder 200 ~bRs of No. I Grade Cayuga (or equal) Rock Salt, more or less,
delivered in 100 lb. paper bags, by truck, to Peconic, N.Y.

RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is directed ~to request
the Long Island Lighting Company to install the following lights:
One 2500 Lumen on LILCO pole ~ at intersection of Hickory & Pine Rds, Shd.
One 75 MVOH on LILCO pole ~2, Stars Road, East Marion
One 1000 Lumen on LILCO pole ~5,' Stars Road, East Marion.

to request the State T~affic Commission to make~a surve~ for a 30 ~.P.~.
speed limit in the Founders EStates Area consisting of the following
roads: Hobart Road, Founders Path, Cottage Place, Old Shipyard Lane, Terry
Lane and Town Ha~rbor Lane.

WHEREAS~ Thomas Byrnes, Radio Operator, Police Department, has' for the
past few years been a faithful employee Of the Town of Southold,and is
now retiring from his position,
NOW, THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Board of the Town of
Southold express to Mr. Byrnes its grateful appreciation of his'services.

RESOLVED: That the Southold Town Board release $12,000 cash in escrow
from Estate of Fleet, Eastwood Estates, Cutch0gue, N.Y. as'secu~rity for
the completion of roads in the development known as Eastwood Estates,
Cutchogue, N.Y. said roads having been approved and ac~e'pted by th~
Town SuPerintefd~nt of ~ighways.

WHEREAS~ Fleet Estates (Eastwood Estates) Cutchogue, N.Y. has made
application to the Town Board to dedicate certain highways at Cutchogue,
N.Y. to be known as EASTWOOD DRIVE and HOLDEN AVENUE, more fully described
in said petition together with release executed by the owners therleof, and
W~EREAS, the Highways Superintendent b~s inspected the said highways and
has advised the Town B~d that said proposed highways comply in all re-
spects with the specifications for the dedication of h~ghways in the
Town of Southold,
NOW~. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That in accordance with Se~tionl71 of the
Highway Law of the State of New York consent be and the same is g~ven
to the Superintendent of Highways Go made an order laying out the afore-
said highways to consist of lands described in said applicatiOn as shown
on certain maps attached to said application, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby ~is author-
ized and directed to forthwith cause the dedication, release ~nd deed
50 be recorded 'in the office of the Clerk of the County of Suffolk.

WHEREAS, the family of Capt. ~George Louis Miner of Youngs Avenue,
Southold, N.Y. received a teiegram from the United States Army Adjutant
General's Department that ~heir son had been killed in Vietnam on August
17, 1969, while flying a helicopter rescue mission, a~d
WHEREAS~ George Louis Miner was born in Southold, June 12, 1945, and
his boyhood and youth are an example of dedicated participation in the
facers of this community life which denote the good and active citizen,
having been in the ~igh School ~and, Chorus, Dramatic Club, La'tin iClub,
Senior Play, a member of the the Baseball and Cross Countr~ Teams, and
a graduate of Southoid High School ~n~1963 and Citadel in 1967, and
WHEREAS~ Capt.' George ~Louis Miner was a loyal citizen of his country as
evidenced by his service' record in the United States Army,
NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That a copy of this resolution be made
a part of the minutes of the Town Board and a copy thereof be transmitted
to his family in order .to extend to the members of his family an exper
pression of sincere sympathy on their loss and appreciation for the
fine exa.mple set by George Louis Miner for the youth of ~is commu~nity.

WHEREAS, the Presbyterian Church Youth Group has requested that a 'p~rtion
of Sound Avenue, Mattituck, be closed to traffic on August 28, 1969,
from 7:30 p.M. to Midnight for the purpose of a youth street dance,
~OW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the above request be granted.

RESOLVED: That the $outhold Town ~oard approves a p~rformance bond in
the amount of $8500.00 for the completion of roads in the subdivision
known as WILLOW TERRACE, Orient, N.Y. owned and developed by Robert
Douglasa, upon the recommendation of the Southold planning Board.

A camping application of Maria Papagiannakis, St~rs Rd./ East Marioh, N.Y.
was 'discussed and withdrawn by the applicant because the sanitation
and wa~er requirements could not be met and would have to be denied
by the Board.

WHEREAS~ Warren Kalbacker wishes to purchase a strip of land belonging to
the Town of Sou~h~ld, 50'x108', more or less, wit~ existing restrCtions,
NOW~ THEREFORE~. BE IT RESOLVED: That this letter of application b~ turned
over to the Town Attorney for review and recommendation,

Supervisor Martocchia instructed the members of the Board to suggest dog
enumerators for the year 1970 as the census must be started on October 1st
and completed by December 1st, 1969.
The~damag~d conditiOn of the bulkhead'at Mattituck Inlet belonging to
the Town Of Southold was discussed. Mr. Dean, Superintendent of Highways,
will get an estimate on the cost of repair of this bulkhead and present
it ~ the Board at the September meeting.
The Building Inspector presented a l~st of unfinished roads on file in
his office. Attorney Tasker advised him to instruct the Planning Board
to contact 'the developer and'the Bonding'Company.
Dr. Goldner and Mr. Norman appeared before the Board with complaints
concerning the use of Goldsmith's Inlet, Peconic. They reported instances
wherepeople who are n~t residents of the Town abused the prigileges of
the beach and they showed pictures to prove their Points. They request
a system of control before the-next summer season.
Mr. Waymie appeared before the Board to request directional signs to
Custer Institute and the Archiological Building on Ba~ View Road, Southold,
and also a sign placed on Doctor's Path, Southold, N.Y.
The Town Bca rd will meet with Several farmers in the Town'of Southold to
determine a satisfactory means in which cover crOps can be palnted in
plenty-of time to prevent the usual dust storms whidh~have been exper-
ienced in the past few years.
Moved by Councilman Valentine; seconded by Supervisor Martocchia;
RESOLVED: That a request be made to the State Traffic Commission to
determine ~he feasability of extending ~he present speed zone which est-
abishes a 35 MPH speed limit on Route 25, SH8229, between Stat~n128~-
(700%~ feet west of Cases Lane) and StatiOn 170+- (500 feet east of
Stillwater Avenue), a distance Of 0.8 miles~. Such zone established under
Section 10.47.37 subdivision (b)~ of the Regulations of the State Traffic
Commission on December'3, 1965. Such extension to be made by deleting
the reference to StatiOn 170+~ and adding the proper station in' the
vicinity of NYS Milepoint Marker 25,0704,15.58, an additional distance
of .4~- miles west of its presen~ terminus.
