MEETING OF JANUARY 2S, 19~9
The Southold Town Board met at th% offibe of Supervisor Albert Martbcchia,
16 South Street, Greenport, New York, on January 28, 196~ at 3:00 ~'.M.
with the followin~ present: Sup~isor Martocchia'; Couhcil~en Demarest
and Valentine; Justices Clark and Surer; Town 'Attorney Tasker and Town
Clerk Richmond; Supt. of Highways Dean.

RESOLVED: That the minutes of the meeting o~_Janua~y 14, 19~69, be 'and

RESOLVED: That the next meeting of the Town Board will be held at ~the

Frank Doroski, Mattituck, N.Y.' appeared before' the Town Board ~eques~ing
the T6wn to prepare a go-cart race track for the youth of the Town of
Southold in the area of the Town Disposal. sUperintendent~o~ Highways
Dean informed Mr. Doroski that this is possible and work~ could be d0n~
in the spring.

RESOLVED~ That Barbara Dittmann be and ~she hereby is to be compensated
for Secretarial services at'meetihgs as f6116ws: Plannin~ Board and

RESOLVED: That the Civil Defense Truck and Station Wagon be moved
from Orient and stored at the Highway Department property in Peconic,

WHEREAS, Town Proposition No. 1, namely (Shall the Town of Southotd
petition the legislature and take other steps to 6reate and erect a
County of Peconic from the five eastern towns of Suffolk County) was
presented to the public at the last general election, and overwhelm-
ingly endorsed, and~
WHEREAS, a similar proposition Was passed by majorities in four other
towns, namely, Shelter Island, Southampton, Riverhead~ and East Hampton,
~W~ THEREFORE~ BE IT RESOLVED: That a certified copy of this resolution
be forwarded to the Hon. Perry B. Duryea, Speaker of the Assembly, and
the Hon. Leon E. Guiffreda, Senator from the First Senatorial District,
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That this Board urge the speaker of the
Assembly Perry B. Duryea, and Senator Leon E. Guiffreda to support,
implement and bring into realization the creation of Peconic County
during this session of the legislature.

Councilman Valentine will meet with the Town Historian, Lawrence T.
Waitz, to discuss the equipment needed in his office and report at
the next meeting of the Town Board.

RESOLVED: That Chief of Police Carl Cataldo~ own of Southold, be and he
hereby is authorized to attend F.B.I. and Dlsclosure Course, Fort Gordon,
Georgia, on March 30th to April 4, 1969, and it is further
RESOLVED: That the actual and necessary expenses to travel, meals and
lodging incurred while attending said school be a legal charge against
the Town. Vote of Town Board: ALL (except Justice Suter voting NO)

RESOLVED: That Police Chief~ Carl Cataldo be and he hereby is authorized
to purchase Law Books from ConsolidatedLaw Service for the. Police~De-
partment, the sum not to exceed $386.00.

RESOLVED: That the Town Board re-appraise the Fire Insurance on all Town
Buildings as follows:

Recommendations made by Mr. Dean and Mr. William Price:
Insure Building at town dump for $500.00
Increase pcoverage on building at Town Beach from $5,000 to $6,000.
Increase coverage on Town Clerk's Building from $30,000 to $35,000
and the contents therein from $35,000 to $50,000.
Increase coverage on small storage barn from $4,000 to $10,000 -
add $2,000 coverage for contents therein.
Increase coverage on Town Highway Building~ Police Station, etc.
from $~5,000 to $65,000.
Contents there~n for Highway Department to be increased from $5,000
to $8%000 and contents for Police Office from $5~000 to $8,000.
Increase coverage on Storage Barn and Sign Shop from $11~000 to $35,000.
Add coverage fD~m contents therein ~n the amount of $10,000 to $28,000.
Add coverage fro Beach House at New Suffolk Beach fn amount of $3,000.
Increase coverage on contents of Supervlsor's Office from $3,500 to $4,000.
Cost of this additional insurance will amount to approximately $1100.
per year.

Representatives of the Baymen's Association appeared before the Town
Board requesting a change in the Shellfish Ordinance or a stronger
law enforcement of the present Ordinance.

RESOLVED: That Chief of Police Cataldo be and he hereby is authorized
to have a phone call box placed at~W61f Pit Lake, Mattituck, N.Y. the
Mattituck Park District having agreed to pay the yearly charge for said
phone.

RESOLVED: That Supervisor Albert Martocchia be and he hereby is authorized
to enter into a contract with All Communications Radio Inc. for yearly
maintenance of police radios.

RESOLVED: That Supervisor Martocchia be and he hereby is authorized to
purch~ee stamps, envelopes and supplies for use of the Supervisor, sum
not to exceed $202.60.

chang'e~of zone of certain property, Greenport, New York, described in
s~id petition from '!A" Residential and Agricultural District to "B"
Business District,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk of the Town of S°uthold
be and he hereby is directed totransmit this application to the Planning
Board-in accordance with Section 901, Subdivision C of Article IX of the
Building Zone Ordinance of the Town of Southold.

WHEREAS, Franklin R. Saunders has ~pplied to the Town Board for a single
trailer renewal permit dated January 22, 1969,
NOWw THEREFORE, ,BE IT RESOLVED: That the application of Franklin~R.
Saunders to locate a single trailer on the property~of-Sophie T. SAunders,.
M~in Road, Laurel, N.Y. be and the same is hereby granted for a period
of six (6) months.

WHEREAS~ the speed limit in the Eastern Shores Development area was re-
quested a short time ago by the Town Board and..sent ~the Department of
Transportation,~and
WHEREAS~ the Department of Transportation has made a field study and found
that a 30 MPH limit is w~rrented,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk. be and he h~eby is
authorized to request the Suffolk County ~o~missioner$of Pubt.ic Works and
the..State 'DepartmeDt of Transportation'to establish a.speedLof 30 MPH
within, the Eastern Shores Development, the boundaries of which are desc-
ribed as follows;
BEGINNING at the intersection of the northerly right-of-way line of ~
North Road, CR 27, with the westerly right-of-way line of Moores
Lane North; thence northerly along'the westerly right-of-way:.of
Moores Lane North to its intersection wit~ the southerly right-of-
way line of Homestead Way; thence westerly along the southerly right-
of-way line of Homestead Way to its intersection with the wester.ly
right-of-way line of Westwood Lane extended southerly; thence nor~h--
erly along the westerly right-of-way-line of'~Westwood Lane extended
southerly and Westwood Lane to its intersection with the southerly

Arthur Guittard of the Conservative Party~attended an~ was welcomed
at the meeting of the Town Board at which time general aspects of
Town Government were discussed.
A committee of the Town Board consisting%of Councilman Demarest,
Justice'Suter and Supervisor Martocchia reported that~a meeting had
been held with the H.O.S.T. concerning Open Housing.
The Hospital Committee consisting Of Justices Suter and Cla~k.report-
ed that efforts are being made to maintain ambulance service.
