HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-09/22/1970 MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 22, 1970 ~ The Southold Town Board met at the office of the Supervisor, Albert Martocchia, Greenport, New York, on Tuesday, September 22, 1970 with the following present: Supervisor Martocchia; Councilmen Valentine and Rich; Justices Demarest and Suter; Town Attorney Tasker; Superin- tendent of Highways Dean and Town Clerk Richmond. Moged by J~stice Surer; seconded by Councilman Valentine; RESOLVED: That the minutes of September 8, 1970, be and they hereby are paroved. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Martocchia; Councilmen Valentine and ~i~h; Justices Demarest and Surer. Moves by Justice Suter; seconded by Justice Demarest; RESO~VED: That the next meeting of the Town Board will 'be held a~the office of the Supervisor,Albert Martocchia, 16 South Street, Greenport, New Yo~k, at 3:00 P.M. on October 6, 1970. Vote Of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Martocchia; Councilmen valentine and ~ich; Justices Demarest and Suter. Moved by Councilman Valentine; seconded by Councilman Rich; RESOLVED: That the reports of the meetingssof the Commissioners of the FiShers Island Ferry Distkict on July 8 and August 10, 1970 and the repgrt for the month of August 1970 be and the same are accepted by the'Town Board and placed on file. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Martocchia; Councilmen Valentine and Rich; Justices Demarest and Suter. Move~ ~y Councilman Valentine; seconded by Justice Demarest; WHEREAS, the residents and taxpayers ~n the area of the Town west of the Incorporated Village of Greenport have requested that a water district to established to provide water in said area, and W~REAS, a feasibility study has been made by the Village of Green~ort which study concludes that it is feasible to establish a water district in said area which system would be connected to the existing water system of the Village of Greenport, and WHERE~S, this Board deems it in the public interest to establish a water district in said area pursuant to the provisions of Article XII-A of the Town Law, NOW~ THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, pursuant to the provisions of Article ~II-A of the~Town Law, that the sum of $200.00 be and the same hereby is appropriated to pay the cost of preparing a general map, plan and report: for providing ~he facilities, improvements or services in the prOPOsed West Greenport water district, and it is further RESOLVED: That this resolution is subject to a permissive referendum. Edgar Worthington has applied to the Town Board for a ~gle trailer renewal permit dated 1970, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the application Of w. ~dgar Worth- ington to locate a single trailer on his property, Sound A enue,~Matt- ituck, New York, be and the same is granted for a six month period. Moved by Councilman Valentine; seconded by Justice Suter; W~EREAS, Mattituck Fire Department requests permission to ci~se"o~f~ Wickham Avenue from traffic during the hours of 6 PM to 9 PM,~for the purpose of conducting a series of fire figh{i~g evolutions for the benefit of the public on Friday, October 9, 1970, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Board of the T~wn'0f Southold grants pe~i~sion for said request to close off Wic~ham Avenue, Mattituck, from traffic between 6 PM and 9 PM on Friday, Oct. 9, 1970. Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Martocchia; Councilmen Valentine and Rich; Justices Demarest and Cuter. 317 Moved by Justice Demarest; seconded by Justice Suter; RESOLVED: That pursuant to Section 215, Subdivision 1-a of the Town Law that the Board of Commissioners of the Orient2East Marion Park Distric~ b~'and they hereby are authorized to designate one of their members as Treasurer and Disbursing Officer for such District in place of the Supervisor, and it is further RESOLVED: That the Board of Commissioners of the Orient-East Marion Par~ Di'~trict be and they hereby are authorized to employ~the' Tow~ AttQ~of the Town of Southold to render professional services and advi~e and to receive such compensation therefor as may be agreed upon betwesn the Commissioners and said Town Attorney. Supervisor Albert Martocchia stated that he had received notice from th~ Civil Service Commission granting a one year extensi6n to September 30, 1971 for Alfred Grebe,~a member 6f the Planning Board of the Town of Southold. Absent: Justice E. J®hn Richmond, Orient, spokesman for a group of residents, requested the Eastern Long Island Hospital to extend the deadline for closing the 'maternity section beyond March 31, 1971 as they are proposing to take action~in obtaining an obstetrician-gynecologist for the area. Two committees have already been formed, one to help locate a doctor and the othe~'to, help convince the residents of Southold Town that the maternity wing~is necessary. They request help from the Town Board. Justice Suter ands!the Board promised to do everything in their power to help. Mrs. Carl Cooper of Greenport asked the Board's ~etp in keeping the his- torical St., Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenport. The 100 year old b~l~ing with its lovely stained glass windows is for sale ~andthere is a chance that it will be moved from the community. Supervisor Martoc¢~hia said that the Board has been considering renting a part of the church to house the Narcotics Council, but that the owner had turned the~o-ard~dO~-~. The Board promises to continue its efforts.
