T~e So~thold Town Board met at the office of the Supervisor, Lester M.
Albertson, at Greenport, on Tuesday, March 27, 1962. The meeting, was
called to order at 3:00 P.M. with the following present: Supervisor
Albertson; Councilmen Demarest and Grathwohl; Justices Tuthill and Cla~;
Supt. of Highways and Town Clerk Richmond.
Moved by~Councilman Demarest; seconded by Justice Tuthill:
WHEREAS, a petition was received from George Vloutely requesting a
change of ~one of certain property described in said petition' from
Rg~ide~ti~12. a~d~Agr~cultural District to "M" Multiple Residence Distrlict,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk of the TOWnOf
Southold be and he hereby is directed to transmit this application
to the Planning Board in accordance with Section 901, Subdivision C of
Article IX of the Building Zone Ordinance of the Town of Southold.

NOW, ~EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That a public hearing will be heldby
the $outhold Town Board at the Supervisor's Office, on Tuesday, April
10, 1962 at 7:00 P.M. on the above mentioned petition and that the TOwn
Clerk be and he hereby iS authorized and directed to cause a notice of
said hearing to be p~blished in the Long Island Traveler-Mattituck
Watchman, pursuant to the requirements of law.

At 3:30 P.M. in accordance with a notice published according to law, bids
were opened for proposals to furnish to the Town of Southold 75,000 gallons
of special ~rade gasoline for the use of Southold Town Police and ~ighway
Department. Onlyo one bid was submitted-Socony Mobil, R. A. McColl~m
.1474 per gallon.

RESOLVED: That the Town Board accepts as to amount ($41,600.00), as
submitted by ~awrence Tuthill, form and sufficiency and proposal for
a performance bond for the completion of roads in ORIENT-BY-THE~SE~,
Section 11 in compliance with specifications for dedication of roads
to the. ToWn, and be it further
RESOLVED~ That if Sound View Drive and North sea Drive are completed
and accepted by the Town of Southold prior to the insurance of the
performance, bond that such bond be reduced to $23,400.

RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and he ~ereby is authorized to commun-
icate with the State Traffic c~mmission and request that a-maximum '
speed limit be established along the State Highway, Route25, to extend
200 feet further west of the present sign END OF SPEED ZONE in west
Greenport, New York. ''- -

WHEREAS, the care and lintenance of the Town Highways of the'State Of
New York imposes a heavy burden upon the Towns and further real estate
taxation would be burdensome and Undesirable, and additional revehue
for building and maint~l~c of the town highway system of the ~state
is 'desirable and urgently needed, and
WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Highway Law the state of New York
now pays to the counties in the State 10~ of the motor and diesei fuel
taxes collected by the State,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the TOW~'~of
Southold strongly .endorses an amendment to the state Highway Law intro-
duced in the Legislature by Assemblyman Edwyn E. Mason and SenatorlE.
Ogden Bus~ to provide for an increase in allocation of suc~ motor and
diesel fuel tax from 10~.to 2~ and that the additional
the Towns~ the State of New York under a formula
of Town Highways in each;town; and that a copy of this resolutioh'~be
sent to senator E. O. B~sh' and Assemblyman~E. E. Mason at the State
Capitol in Albanl~n and further that the Board of the TownOf 'So~thold
go on record as strongly endorsing the bill to ~soamend the Highway
Law introduced by Senator Bush and Assemblyman Mason, and ~urges-the
enactment of the said law.

WHEREAS, Harold D. Price, Supt. of Highways of the Town of Soutold in-
formed this Board that the Municipal Machinery Co. of Coram, L.I. was
the lowest bidder for a new KOlman Portable Conveyor, ' ~
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That t~e Town Board approves the action
of Harold Price, Supt. of Highways, in purchasing said Portable. COnveyor
in accordance With bids submitted. - '

NOW~.~THEREFORE, ~E ITF~RESOLVED: That Lester M. Albertson, Supervisor,
be and he hereby is directed to enter into a contract with Greenport
Auto Sale~for the purchase of six new 1962 2-door sedans, 8-cylinder1
automobiles at a total cost of $8,289.08 to be delivered at the
Police Department in Peconic, L.I.

concern in relation to the sign situation in Southold Town ~mre received
by the Supervisor.
The Town Board reconvened at the supervisor's Office, Thursday, March
29, 1962, at 1:00 P.M.
Mo~ed by Justice Tuthill; seconded by Councilman Demarest;
WHEREAS, the Town Board on its own motion proposed to amend the Building
Zone Ordinance of the Town of Southold, Suffolk County, N.Y., and
WHEREAS, the said resolution was referred to the Planning Board for its
official recommendation and report, and
WHEREAS, the Town Board pursuant to due notice thereof held a hearing
~hereon on March 27, 1962, at which t~me all interested p~rsons were
given an opportunity to be heard,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Building Zone Ordinance of the
Town of Southold, Suffolk County, New York, be amended as follows; to wit:-
I. By amending Article III, Section 300, subdivision 7 to read as follows:
7 - Accessory bmildings, including one (1) private garage, when
such accessory buildings are located in the rear yard, or a
private garage within or attached to the dwelling.
II. By amending Article IV, Section 408, subdivision (b), subsection 2
to read as follows:
2 -Exceed in width one hundred (100) percent of the horizontal
measurement of such wall.
III. By amending Article IV, Section 408 by inserting therein a new
subdivision to be subdivision {c) to read as follows:
(c) -ROOF SIGNS - Inlieu of a wall sign authorized by the pre-
ceding subdivision (b), a roof sign shall be permitted provided that the
same is attached to or incorporated in a roof, which sign shall advertise
only the business conducted ~n the building upon which it is attached
and provided that such sign does not:
(1) Exceed two (2) square feet in total area for each lineal foot of
such roof, and
(2) Extend above the highest point of the roof in the case of a pitched
roof, and in all other cases exceed two (2) feet six (6) inches in
height above the highest point of the roof, and
(3) Project beyond the edge of the roof.
IV. By amending Article VII, Section 705, to read as follows:
~ection 705 - For each application or Appeal to-the'Boar~
of Appeals as hereinafter provided, 'there shall be a fee of five dollars
($5.00) accompanying the Application or Appeal.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the application of Sam BrOwn to
locate a single trailer on his own property off Middle Road, Cutchogue~
N.Y. be and ~ereby is granted for year round occupancy for a period
one year.
