February 4~>~ £965
TheChairman opened the hearing byreading application for
a.special exception,, legal notice of hearing,, affidavit attesting
to its publication in the official newspaper,, a~.d notice to the
applica~t.
THE CHAIRMAN: Is there anyone present who wishes to speak
in favor of this app~cation?
RICHARD bEJLLEN: I think this sign will improve the looks of
the place and also help to improve the looks of the Town. Chrysler
sort of says that we have to have this sign.
(A lenghty discussion was held in regard to the size of
the sign, etc. Edward Prelwitz was present~ not to speak against
the applieation~ but to find out exactly what the applicant-was
asking for. Fir. Prelwitz felt that this sign would be a drastic
change in the character of Southold Town, however he did not
consider it completely harmful. ~ir. Stephen Campbell was also
present at this hearing' He had no outstanding objection to
the sign.)
THE CHAIRMAN: Is there anyone present who wishes to speak
against this application?
(There was no response. )
After investigation and inspection the Board finds that~Mullen
Motor Sales wishes to place a sign on the face of the building
facing on Main Road. The sign will be 9'x9'x8' and will read
"Plymouth, Chrysler,. Imperial". This sign Rill be mounted so
that approximately 4~ feet projects above the roof. This sign
also has the Chrysler insignia which would be an additional
four feet high. The Board is not willing to authoriz~ the use
of the insignia on the sign.
The Board finds that the public convenience and welfare and
justice will be served and the legally established or permitted
use of neighborhood property and adjoining use districts will not
be permaner~y~or substantially injured and the spirit of the
Ordinance will be observed.
