Dear Trustees:
We are the property owners at 5115 New Suffolk Rd (SCTM 110.-8-34) which includes
the Peconic Land Trust Easement of approximately 12 acres. In the last 2 years the beach has
suffered significant sand erosion of the shore between the low to mid tide water marks. We have
had several discussions with the other shore line property owners and shore specialists regarding
the hi~tory of the shore and the related erosion issues and have compiled the foUowing fucts:
I) The erosion problem is not a recent problem but rather a problem that has existed tòr
many years and pre-dates the installation of our bulkhead.
2) The tidal action pulls the sand ¡¡-om our shore to the channel of the creek where there is
significant sand accumulation.
3) In the past the town and county routinely directed the dredging output ¡¡-om the
Boatman's Harbor (Wickham Creek) to our shore to remediate the erosion.
4) Inexplicably the trustees elected to redirect our lost sand to the Fleet Neck shore despite
the fuet thaI copious amounts of sand are on that shore and our shore is severely depleted.
5) We and property owners to the west of us have been forced to construct bulkheads and
groins to combat erosion and property damage. Neighbors to our east are now fueing the
same dilemma.
It is a fact that the sand piling up in the channel originates ¡¡-om our shore and it is only
reasonable and appropriate that the sand dredged ¡¡-om the channel should be directed to our
shore. The shoreline in question runs from the large wood groin located on the property to the
west of our property extending to the Boatman's Harbor (Wickham Creek) channel.
We appreciate your attention to this matter and we appeal to your sense of reason and fair play
based on the fuets. For further information, please contact Tom Gleason at the address above,
631-734-2773, or tom.gleason@qnetic.com.
Sincerely,
Tom and Nancy Gleason

SOUTHOLD TOWN
CONSERVATION ADVISORY COUNCIL
At the meeting of the Southold Town Conservation Advisory Council held Monday,
August 20, 2001, the following recommendation was made:
Moved by Scott Hilary, seconded by Bill McDermott, it WElS
RESOLVED to recommend to the Southold Town Board of Trustees DISAPPROVAL of
the Wetland Permit Application of TOM GLEASON to construct 195 linear ft. of
bulkhead beginning from the southeastern most property corner, along Cutchogue
Harbor, (with 5' return at northern terminus) with a 5' wide splash pad on landward side
of proposed bulkhead and 5' wide toe armor on seaward side of proposed bulkhead
along entire length. Extending from the northern terminus of said bulkhead will be 130
linear ft. +/- of 16' wide +/- of rock revetment, itself running along the southeastern edge
of subject property to the northern property line. In addition, applicant proposes to
construct an access road (8.0' wide) on the northeastern section of said property.
5115 New Suffolk Rd., New Suffolk. SCTM#11 0-8-34
The CAC recommends Disapproval of the application because the proposed hardening
of the shoreline seems to be excessive in this area for erosion control.
