Gentlemen:
We are forwarding herewith applications (including diagrams, a survey, and
photos), to rebuild our two deteriorating wooden docks, commercial docks for offioading
fish, lobster and clam boats, on Mattituck Inlet.
The north dock has poles that are missing (ice damage) or broken offunder the
waterline, and broken cross timbers in at least two places that need to be replaced. It is
unusable as it is.
The south dock needs the north outside comer pole and two inshore of it, the
south outside comer pole and one inshore of it, and one center pole replaced.
While we are doing this work, we would also like to replank the north dock, and
replace some worn planks on the south dock.
About two weeks ago, two representatives fi.om the DEC visited our site on the
presumption that we were already doing this work. We were not. They suggested that
when we file our application, we apply to completely rebuild the docks. This is, therefore,
what we are doing now. Although we anticipate merely doing the work outlined above,
this will enable us to do any additional repairs we may deem necessary.
We need to be able to drive a forklift on both of these docks, and as they are right
now, we are afl'aid to. There is not enough support for it. As these docks are necessary
for commercial fishing operations, we request your approval of our application as soon as
possible. Thank you for your consideration.
ck
Sincerely,
/
