density, private, residential area. The most eastern residence
on the island, surrounded on the N, E, and S by LI Sound, Wico-
pesset Passage, and Block Island Sound. Grassy terrain dotted -see attachedR

Large 22 story, gable and hip roof stone mansion with interior court-
yard and center arched entrance. Stone chimneys. 2 story, round
stair tower with conical roof at. SE corner. Gable roof wall-face
dormers with chevron brick pattern. Brick cornice details.

20. HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE:
Castle-like in appearance, this house is one of the most elabor-
ate summer residences here on the east end of Fishers Island.
It is especially noteworthy for its spectacular location.
Architecturally, this house features design elements that
typify American country houses of this period, including
the incorporated courtyard and wall face dormers. This is
one of the important houses from that era, and was featured
in American Architect of October, 1935.
