Located within the cluster of Fort Terry structures that
occupy the middle of Plum Island. Open land surrounds
this grouping.
18. OTHER NOTABLE FEATURES OF BUILDING AND SITE (including interior features if known):
12 story, rectangular, multi-bay, gable roof building.
Flanking garage wings. 6/6 windows with round arch lintels
and stone sills. Scrolled, exposed rafter ends at eaves
and bottom edge of rake.

20. HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE:
This building retains its original function as a maintenance
garage for the service and repair of vehicles. It is his-
torically and architecturally significant as a component
of the Fort Terry compound which reflects U.S. coastal
defense history. It is located amidst the concentration of
Fort Terry buildings grouped near the center of Plum Island,
and so retains its historical context.

Safety Code Requirements. The change and wash-up
areas are substandard.
RECOMMENDATION Demolish upon completion of new facilities. Replace-
ment of this facility should be considered a fairly
high priority.
