HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE: This important component of the historic Fort Terry complex has been unsympathetically altered by the addition of an inappropriate window. However, other original architectural features remain. As a guest house for military officials, this building contributes greatly to the historical sig- nificance of the fort compound. It was probably occupied by the commanding officers who trained the military units sent to Plum Island for the various coastal defense oper- ations. This was one important role of Fort Terry in the intricate Harbor Defense system. 21. SOURCES: Master Plan. Perkins & Will, 1977. 2L 1-HI F.
