_10. HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE:
It is remarkable that so many of these Southold milestones
are extant. They are significant historically as they
represent a period when travel was slow and difficult.
These milestones marked the distance to the County Court House
in Riverhead along Historic Kings Hwy. , presently NYS Rte.
