This small post office/war memorial is located on Main
Rd . , historic King's Hwy. Medium density residential ,
surrounded by houses of historic and architectural sig-
nificance . Fire )ept. building to the east.

1+ story, 3 bay gable roof building with center entrance
flanked by 6/6 windows . Nide frieze with dentils . Interior
includes decorated post boxes and 2-bay counter assembly.

,,o. IIISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE:
This post office is believed to be the first in the United
States to be built as a War Memorial . Residents raised the
money to dedicate the building as a memorial. to WWII
service people from East Marion. They raised more than
$7 ,OOQ , which with a $1 , 000 bank loan was sufficient to
construct this building. It has since been dedicated to
those in Nast Marion who have served in consecutive wars .
