` was used as a "tenement house" until Seth Tuthill's son sold it in 1919. It was
I probably at that time that tie small front porch and dormer were added. The first
large chimney had been 7X51 feet at the base, with fireplaces opening both front
and back, to living room and present dining room. At the second floor level it
was 4X2J feet and had a small fireplace in the central upstairs hall which opened
111 into five tiny bedrooms, two of which were under the front eaves. Douglas and
Alma Cummings, the present ooners, replaced a later chimney, and again have a
fireplace in the living room. More at Plates III and IV.

1902, Lucie came back to Scuthold with her four children and built this house on
the ashes of the old, as it were. From Lucie the house went to her son John, whose
widow Marjory R. Scott now ]lives there, the last Prince link living on Joseph's
Homestead property.

This house, destroyed by a tragic fire just before Christmas in 1980 was the
historically marked "C . 1690 Jean Boisseau, Benjamin L'Hommedieu House." It was
moved from its homesite to Parsonage Lane (Locust Lane) in the early 1900s.
[Southold, Historic MarKers, pp. 15,16_ f
William and Gertrude moved here after giving up farming. The ceilings were f
low, and some of the rooms were quite small. From the front one entered a large
living room with one small bedroom off it to the right. The kitchen was off it to
the back and two small bedrooms to the left . A door from the living room led to a
hall and large rear bedroom. The rear view of the house shows a side door that
went into the kitchen. The center bac:t door led to a stairway and door to the
kitchen. Back hall space had been converted to a bath.
