The house is built on an embankment below the level of
Route 25, on the north side of the road in an area which
is partly wooded and partly vineyards, in the proximity
of a small pond (north of residence) .
18. OTHER NOTABLE FEATURES OF BUILDING AND SITE (including interior features if known):
Small 12--story, 3-bay, side entrance plan, gable roof house
with center chimmay. The house is built on a steep slope at
the Pdge of the road and stands on a high brick foundation.
The house is 2-�'F stories on the rear due to the slope from
the road.

The snow scene is typical of the 1890 winters when drifts
blocked the roads. There were, of course, no mechanical plows.

q,e Teams of horses floundered through, breaking it up somewhat,
followed by men with shovels, who struggled mightily to keep
the roads open. The location is in front of the old shingled base-
=r, went house, occupied in my youth by the Pummels. The Fal-

r remarkable how well old,old houses survive when continuously
Y. lived in, while abandoned ones go to pieces so soon.
