It forms a cluster with many old historic buildings which are a vital. part of the small town' s past. 18. DATE OF INITIAL CONSTRUCTION:-Chi irrh founded in 173 present church completed in 1852. Steeple ARCHITECT: and belltower added in 1$83. BUI LDLR: '0. HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE: The original (1732) church was a meetinghouse of the broadhouse type, without steeple. Only the cornerstone of this building, marked 1732, remains. It was used during the Revolutionary War as a stable by the British. Trials for moral charges and property disputes were frequently held in this church in the 18th and 19th centuries. * In general, the church has always had a pivotal role in the life and thinking of the town. _'I.
