The house is situated on a quiet street in the center of
New Suffolk. The houses around it are well spaced and sur-
rounded by neatly kept yards in the manner of the traditional
American village.

original decorative shingles on mansard roof and sides of

The house was once a boarding house known as the "Peconic
Bay House" , and was built towards the end of the last cen-
tury, at a time when New Suffolk had become a flourishing
summer resort.
It is situated within the grid originally laid out by Ira
Tuthill and others in 1836 as a master plan for the hamlet
of New Suffolk.
