Addendum to Application of Michael F. Mattes
Question 18-Other notable features of building and site
Greek Revival south wing (earliest part) ,Itt,).lianate bracketed
addition-original cupola and finial,Victorian tombstone and
diamond windows-Porte-cochere with wraparound porch on west , south
and part of east sides.
Greek Revival part includes neo-classic library,divided by
arches,surported by pilastered columns. Hand carved mantel,
free standing fluted columns. Ceiling,wall plaster mouldings.
Foyer in north wing has two storey oak panelled Queen Anne
pyramidal ceiling with stained glass skylight ,gallery on 2nd.
floor-wainscotting throughout rest of north wing-
Second floor has oak panelling,sliding pocket doors--bathrooms
have original clawfoot tubs with Victorian hardware.
Boxwood garden contains century-old specimens. Special plantings
include English Beech,Weeping Beech,Blue Spruce , Japanese Maples,
part of sculptured hedge remaining. Several Black Walnut trees.
