Dear Mr. Wieser:
Getting back to our conversation on. Friday, April 5th concerning the
trees located on your new construction site @ Main Road Southold:
T.h_e m..ai.n .tree, population worthy of pruning and thinning are the 7- 8
.s,,p...a?. ea ~-ng,sn wmnuts: 3 4 larger Mulberrys, 2-3 Black Locusts and 1-2
w~ld Cherrys.. As I mentioned, the bramble, undesirable underbrush, and
diseased, dying trees should be cleared. The compaction of the roots and
their natural grafting can weaken the desirable trees.
Also, thinning and clearing will aerate and allow space for Ii'nbs to
elongate and form a crown. Right now, as I explained, the trees are
running fo.r light, a condition .k..nOwn as phototropism, causing long spindly
trunks wh~chbecome suscepbble to wind, snow and normal situations.
They haven't put on the annUal trunk bulk to architecturally stand under
any extreme condition. I recommend cutting to grade all the underbrush
and undesirable growth. This in turn.will spark regrowth allowing one to
select any smaller trees and bushes like BayBerry, Russian Olive and
possibly Beach Plums and native flowering type shrubs. The larger trees I
mentioned earlier would be tagged and slated for proper, pruning and
fertilization.
I think after this process of selectively thinning and prunin.cl a much
more healthy and ipleasing vista will be created turning a mass ~)f
entangled underbrush and conflicting trees into a sunset silhouette of
beauty.
Thank you for considering Island Tree Company for ye
arbomulutural needs.
Sincerely, $OUYHOL[j
