The culvert needs to be of suitable dimension so that the flow of floodwaters is not constricted and should be the same size as the receiving culvert that runs east/west on your property. It is our intention to install a NYS DOT-approved catch basin and connect it to the existing pipe, which nms east to west. Please note that approximately five to six years ago we installed this pipe and catch basin with NYS DOT permission. The ditch, which runs north from this basin, would then have a concrete pipe installed and covered. Suffolk County Vector Control currently maintains this ditch and they have no issue with this proposal. The ditch which continues west would be left as it is for the time being, with the possibility of installing a pipe some time in the future.
