Permit for building expansion at 220 Lakeview Terrace, E. Marion, NY
Applicant: Elizabeth Sentell
To Members of the Board of Trustees:
As property owners on Lakeview Terrace, E. Marion, NY, we are responding to a notice
received from the office of Garrett A. Strang, Architect, Sonthold, NY, on behalf of his
client, Elizabeth Sentell. The notice informed us that Ms. Sentell, property owner at 220
Lakeview Terrace, E. Marion, NY, has applied for permits which will allow for expansion
of the structure on her property.
As property owners who share lot lines with Ms. Sentell's property, we wish to express our
serious concerns regarding this proposed expansion. Our concern centers largely on the
fact that Ms. Sentell's property is only 28 feet wide - with very close proximity to the
homes on either side. The expansion request as it stands will double the size of the
existing structure - overwhelm the small lot - and we believe have a negative impact on
both this neighborhood and on the environment.
It is our sincere hope that the permit for this project will be denied. Thankyou for your
consideration of this matter.
Sincerely,
June & Norman Woodcock, 160 Lakeview Terrace, E. Marion

Re: Public Hearing - June 21, 2001
Premises - 220 Lakeview Terrace, East Marion
Applicant - Elizabeth A_ Sentel[
Dear Mr. Krupski:
When Mr. and Mas. Walter Robinson asked his neighbors if they would support the subdivision &his property, it
s',as vAth the understanding that there would be no garage or other buildings erected on the premises~ we agreed
The cottage has neither basement nor central heating. The impact upon the environment is slight. The latest former
ovmers, the Fergusons, installed a fireplace approximately 2 years ago; were denied a small extension on the roadside
by the Town, but the small extension was supported by the neighbors. There is no comparison of the impact of a
seasonal, small cottage into a 3 bedroom house with additions on the lakeside and roadside on a small plot of land on
Marion Lake which is in distress now. The effluent from a year-round 3 bedroom house would flow into a cesspool
which would be placed in a water table which is only l 5 to 18' deep. This is a proposed large house, at least doubling
the size of the cottage, on a relatively small plot of land, long and very narrow. There appears to be only 3 or 4'
between the sides oftbe cottage and the lot lines on either side now. I vehemently oppose the approval ofth~s permit
under the provisions of the Wetland Ordinance of the Town of Southold
Other lakeside dwellers, including the Bayleys, the Gaipas, and the Woodcocks have been denied expansion plans
for their houses beyond the perimeters of the then existing house by the Town. Two of those houses are on plots
much larger than that at 220 Lakeview Terrace.
Thank you for your anticipated taking into consideration my thoughts in your deliberation of the matter.
