Proiect Description
Applicant proposes to utilize proper horticultural and silvicultural technician(s) to
improve the health of the vegetation located within the buffer area. Activities will
include the following:
· Cutting/removal of existing vines that are killing mature trees. Vine species such as
Bittersweet (Celastrus scandens), Wild grape (Vilis spp_), and Virginia creeper
(Parthenocissus quinquefolia) will be cut at tree base; vines will be pulled from trees
and removed for disposal.
· Proper silvicultural pruning techniques will be utilized to remove dead or diseased
shrubs and allow for increased tree growth and health_
. Vines and non-native species will be removed in order to promote health of existing
native shrub species such as Bayberry (Myrica pensylvanica) and Choke berry
(Aronia spp_). All removal and pruning will utilize hand tools and will occur during
dormant season to eliminate impacts to herbaceous plant species. Thinning and
selective trimming will allow for greenhouse light penetration, increased diversity
and a more productive buffer area.
· All plant material will be removed by hand and disposed of off site.
. All activities will be supervised by a qualified horticulturalist or arborist.
