Gentlemen:
The following action was taken by the Board of Southold
Town Trustees at a regular meeting held January 2, 1980.
RESOLVED to recommend to the Southold Town Board disapproval
of Wetland Application #43 of Margaret Braatz to construct a 78
' foot timber bulkhead and dredge approximately 150 cubic yards of
sand;to be placed behind bulkhead at private property of the
applicant at Wunneweta Pond, Nassau Point, Cutchogue, for the
following reasons:
1. This is an unspoiled piece of wetlands.
2. This is a critical area in regard to salt water
intrusion.
3. Once marsh grass and peat bog and root system is
removed, the fragile interface moves inland.
4. This will start a precedent in the area for bulk-
heading. 1

Dear Ms. Terry:
The above referenced application was received for construction of
a bulkhead.
An inspection of the premises indicates the presents of a viable
marsh fringe which would be destroyed by the proposed project. We are
contacting the applicant to determine whether an alternate can be selected.
Unless- another alternative is selected it is our opinion that the project
will have a significant detrimental effect.
We do not object to your designation of lead agency. We shall be
in contact with you if another alternative is proposed.

The following statements are submitted as part of my application
for Wetlands Permit at Wunneweta Pond, Nassau Point, New York
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The applicant proposes to construct 78+ linear feet of timber bulkhead
in line with the existing bulkhead and dredge the area in front of the
proposed structure to a maximum depth of 6 feet below the plane of mean
low water as indicated on the attached drawing.
Approximately 150 cubic yards of sandy material will be removed and
placed behind the proposed structure where it will be suitably retained
to prevent its return to the waterway.
The purpose of this project is to protect the shoreline from erosion and
to prevent undermining of the adjacent bulkheading.
STATEMENT OF REHABILITATION AND CONDITION
During construction, earth will be pushed back to install deadmen. Following
construction earth will be replaced and fill from dredging will also be
used behind bulkhead. Suitable planting and vegetation will be planted on
the fill to stablize it.
STATEMENT AS TO PRIOR OPERATIONS
No prior o.perations hcive been conducted on the premises, except the construc-
tion of the existing bulkhead in 4,"Y011L• No prior licenses
or permits have been issued to erect structures or deposit fill on said premises.
Wunneweta Pond Association had deposited dredge spoil from dredging thdir channel
in approximately 1960 and again in 1970.
