I am curious, however, about the rejection by the Planning Board of the application previously submitted, in view of the fact that the Town Board apparently approved it, and wondered whether minutes of the Planning Board set forth their reasons for rejection, since it would seem that a 19 foot drive'Iay is a substantial mode of access to homes on the road. Terry BuIlding Inspector Town of Southold Southold, New York Dear Mr. Terry: Belatedly, I wish to thank you for your very helpful letter of December 26, with regard to my proposed construction at Paradise Shores. As you are undoubtedly aware from the very date of your letter, this was the height of the holiday season and one commitment or another, together with a case of the flu, has kept me from getting out to see you and filing the building permit as you re- quested. My principal reason for delay was that, un- fortunately, I have never taken any precise measure- ments of the sIze of my house so as to be able to fill in the reverse side of the Application for Building Permit. Meanwhile, so that you do not think I have disregarded your suggestions and your request for filing a permit, I have completed the form to the best of my ability, with respect to the various dimensIons. Actually, I had intended to file when the outside alteration work commenced, which I would like to do myself when the Easter vacation rolls around, and it amounts to a 9 foot extension of the northerly side of the building, with the idea of extending the present roof not only over this ex- tens ion, but over an open porch that we would 1 ike to put in in the "jog" of the house in the front. This you will see in the dotted lines that I have indicated on the diagram. In any event, as soon as I can get to Southold I will undertake to get exact measurements and discuss with you then the desirability of filing an amended diagram, but meanwhile you will have for your records thIs application which I hope will cover me in the interim period. Dear Sir; Your letter ot December 23rd at hand, Thank you very much for writing. The red tag which I put on your house is for the purpose of getting information on the work proposed, rather than an outright violation, and if a violation exists to give the owner a chance to file befo;e the date on the notice, otherwise the name is turned in to one oftthe justices of peace for a warrant to be issued. I am enclosing a copy of the Zoning Ordinance which applys to the whole town. I would call YOllr attention to Article VII, section 703, which requires a permit before commencing any work. The fee for an addition to an existing dwelling is $,.00. In the case of Paradise Shores, and other developments etc. on private roads, no building permits can be issued until the area served by the private road is declared an open development area and the private road is approved as suita~l. and adequate access by the Planning Board and approved by the Town Board.
