Meeting of June 21, 1960
The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Henry H. Tuthill
at Greenport, N.Y. on June 21, 1960. The meeting was called to order at
l:30P,M, with the following present: Supervisor Tuthill; Councilmen
Albertson and Demarest; Justice Tuthil~;Town Attorney Tasker and Town
ClerkRichmond.
Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Councilman Demarest:
RESBLVED: That the minutes of the meeting of June 7, 1960, be and they
hereby aredduly approved as read.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Tuthill; Councilmen Albertson and
Demarest; Justice Tuthill.
Moved byJustice Tuthill; seconded by Councilman Albertson:
RESOLVED: That a regular meeting of the Southold Town Board be held at
the office of the Supervisor at 16 South Street, Greenport, N.Y. on
Tuesday, July 5, 1960. at 7:30 P.M.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Tuthill; Counsilmen Albertson and
Demarest; Justice Tuthill.
Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Councilman Demarest;
RESOLVED: That a regular monthl~ meeting of the Town Board be held at
th$. office of Supervisor Tuthill, 16 South Street, Greenport, N.Y. at
1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, July 12, 1960. .
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Tuthill; Councilmen Albertson and
Demarest~ J~stice Tuthill.
Mr.. Edward Fox and William Januick appeared before the Town Board asking
that something be done about th~ launching ramp at New Suffolk, After
much discussion, it was decided to take it u~ at a later date when a
better location could be decided upon.
Mr. Merwin Gruschkin and R. William Mueller, Jr. appeared before the
Board with a petition signed by ten people protesting the trailer
application of John Peterson. After consideration, the trailer applic-
ation was held for decision on July 5th to enable the Town Board to
investigate the location of the trailer.
The Town Board also received applications for House Trailer-~Permits
from Watter Kessler, Edward R. Burke and Raymond H. Brown. These
applications were also held for investigation and a decision will be
reached on July 5th.
At 2:00 P.M., in accordance with a notice published according to law,
bids were opened for (a) Two gasoline pumps and (b) one ten thousand
gallong gasoline tank. The fOllowing bids were submitted:

After deliberation of the Board the following resolution was offered
by Councilman Albertson and seconded by Councilman Demarest:
WHEREAS, the lowest bid was submitted by R. A. McCallum for the 10,000
gal. gas tank, Now therefore be it
RESOLVED: That Henry H. Tuthill, Supervisor, be and he hereby is direct-
ed to enter into a contract with R. A. McCallum for the purchase of
(a) 1 - 10,000 gal gas tank, in accordance with the hid submitted by
the said R. A. McCallum.

RESOLVED: That Henry H. Tuthill, Supervisor, be and he hereby is direct-
ed to enter into a contract with Renich & Mahoney Inc. for the purchase
of two gas pumps, in accordance with the bid submitted by Renich & Mahoney, Inc.

WHEREAS, a vacanc~ exists in the office of Co~issioner ofthe CUtchogue
New Suffolk Park District and
WHEREAS, the Town Board of the Town of Southold by Chapter 753 of~Laws
of 1950 is authorized to appoint a qualified person to fill such vacanc~
NOW, T~EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That Curtis W. Horton be and hereby~.is
appointed Commissioner of the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Park District to
hold such office until Jan. 1, 1961.

WHEREAS, Southold Town Planning Boardhas prepared an official report
and recommendation upon the petition of Theodore and Mary Doroski for
a change of zone from "A" REsidential and AGricultural District to "B"
Business District, on c~rtain property on North side of Main Road,
Cutchogue, N.Y.
MOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That a public hearing will be held by
the Southold Town Board at 'the Supervisor's Offide in Greenport, on
Tuesday, July 5th, 1950, at 7:30 P.M. on the above mentioned petition
and that the Town ~e~k be and he hereby is authorized and directed
to cause a notice of said hearing to be published in the Long Island
Traveler-Mattituck Watchman, pursuant to the requirements of law.

RESOLVED: That the Town Cl~rk be and hereby is directed to request
the Long Island Lighting Company t~ install two (2) 100 watt street
lights on Poles 51 and 54, Boisseau Avenue, one (1) Mercury Vapor
light on Pole 5, Oaklawn Avenue, and two (2~ 100 watt iights on poles
446 and 838, two (2) mercury vapor on poles 4'48 and 44~, Main Road, E.
by FiShing Stations, all in the Southold Lighting District.
Vote of Town Board: Ayes-Supervisor Tuthill; Councilmen Albertson and
Demarest; Justice Tuthill.

WHEREAS, the Mattituck Fire Department has applied to the Town Clerk
for a Bingo License and
WHEREAS, the Town Board has examined the application and after invest-
igating the matter, duly made findings and determinations as requi~ed
by law, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and he hereby is Suthorized ahd=~directed
to execute on b~half of the Board the findings and determinations required
by law, and it is further
RESOLVED~ That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is directed to issue a
Bingo License to the Mattituck Fire Department.

WHEREAS, the East Marion Fire Department has applied to the Town Clerk
for a Bingo License, and
WHEREAS, the Town Board has examined the application and after investig-
ating the matter, duly made findings and determinations as required by law,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and he hereby
is~authorized and directed to execute on behalf of this Board the
findings and determinations required by law, and it is further
RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is directed to issue a
Bingo License to the East Marion Fire Department.

WHEREAS, the Burton Potter Post $185 has applied to the Town Clerk for
a Bingo License, and
WHEREAS~ the Town Board has examined the application and after invest-
igating the matter, duly made findings and determinations as required
by law,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be and he hereby
is authorized and directed to execute on behalf of this Board the
findings and determinations required by law, and it is further
RESOLVED: That the Town Clerk be and he hereby is directed to issue
a Bingo License to the Burton Potter Post $185.

Moved by Councilman Albertson; seconded by Councilman Demarest:
WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry District
desires to lease Theatre Building $62 located on the South Side of
Whistler Avenue, Fishers Island, New York, to the Union Free School
District ~4 and
WHEREAS, said Board of Commissioner.s by resolution thereof adopted
on August 24, 1959, agreed to enter into a lease of said Theatre
Building for a term of one year with option to renew for a further
term of four successive years at an 'annual rent of $700.00, said lease
being subject to the approval of the Town Board of the The Town of
Southold,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the Town Board of the Town of South-
old does hereby consent that said Ferry District Commissioners lease
said Theatre Building $62 to the Union Free School S4 for a term of
one year with the option to renew for further periods 6f four success-
ive years at an annual rent of $700.00.

The following letter was received from the Southold Planning Board:

Report To: Southold Town Board
Southold, New York
Gentlemen:
This is to certify that the following action was taken by the
Southold Town Board at its meeting on June 7, 1960:
It has been brought to the attention of 'the Planning Board
the condition that exists at the turn on Cox Neck Road between Bergen
Avenue and Luthers Road, Mattituck New York, where there has been
many complaints and much criticism witha~he conditions that exist at
this location.
It is the recommendation of the Planning Board that the Town
Board take steps to straighten this sharp turn and eliminate the hazards
which exist under the present conditions.
This is one of the most dangerous corners in Southold Town and
there is a great deal of heavy commercial traffic traveling through
there. The Planning Board recommends correction of this condition
at the earliest possible time.

The Town Board will take this up with Supt~ of Highways Harold Price
at a later date.
A letter was received from Miss Nora M. Dunn, Southold, asking that
a '~CHILDREN-GO SLOW" sign be placed at the entrance of Mill Colon~
North ROad. Miss Dunn was informed by letter that her letter was
forwarded to the Supt. of Highways, Mr. Harold Price.
Councilman Louis M. Demarest requested the Town Clerk to write to
the Long Island Lighting Company requesting a sketch of lights from
Baptist Church to Rocky Point Road, Route 25 and to contact Councilman
Demarest on said sketch before it is made.
A letter was received from Cutchogue Chamber of Commerce requesting
four hour parking limit on Griffin Road, Cutchogue, as all day park-
ing is being practiced now and is causing congestion at the Cutchogue
Post Office.
