MEETING OF JANUARY 5~ 1960
The Southoid Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Henry H.
Tuthili st Greenport on Tuesday~ January 5, 1960. The meeting was
called to order by Supervisor Tuthiil at 1:30 P.M. with the following
present: Supervisor Henry H. Tuthi!l~ Councilmen Albertson and
Demarest; Justices TuthiI!7 Clark and EdwardsI Superintendent of
Highways Price; Town Attorney Tasker and Town Clerk ~~,
The meeting was opened by the reading of a ~ra~erm by Supervisor
Tuthill.
Moved by Justice Clark; seconded by Councilman Albertson:
RESOLVED: That the minutes of the meeting of December 30~ 1959
be and hereby are duly approved as read. Vote of Town Board:

RESOLVED That the resignation of Fire inspector of Fishers island,

WHEREAS~ It is required by Section 27~ Subdivision I of the Town Law

authorized to ac~ as Public Welfare Officer at the pleasure of the

RESOLVED: That Wayland Jefferson be compensated while acting in such
capacity in the amount of Five Hundred Dollars ($500.O0) per year~
payable in regular monthly payments~ and be it further

_ the Multiple Resident Law and a Building Inspector be appointed for the
enforeememt of the Building Zone Ordinance of the Town of Southold~
now therefore be it
RESOLVED~ That Howard M. Terry~ be and he hereby is~ appointed enforce-
ment officer for both the Multiple Resident Law and the said Building
Zone 0rdinance for s term of one year~ commencing January l~ 1960 and
expiring on December 31~ 1960 and be it further
RESOLVED~ That the total salary for both positions be and hereby is
fixed at the sum of Fi~e thousand two hundred dollars ($5~200.00).

RESOLVED: That Howard M. Terry~ enforcement officer of the Multiple
Resident Law and Building Zone 0rdinance~ be compensated for travel
expense necessarily and actually incurred in carrying out the duties
of his office and that he be further compensated for the use of his
own automobile when used to carry out the duties of his office at a
rate not exceeding eight cents (~.08) per mile.

property for State~ County and town purposes as the ToWn Board shall
direct~ now therefore be it
RESOLVED~ That ~lbert Martocchia be and hereby is designated ~o hold
the office of Chairman of the Town Board of Assessors until the firs~
day of January next succeeding such designation~ ali in accordance

WHEREAS~ Section 64 of the Town Law requires the Town Board to
designate by resolution banks in this State in which the Supervisor
or any other officer of the Town shall deposit all monies co~ing
into their hands by virtue of their o£fices~ and
WHERERS~ The Town Board may require any Batik so designated to
deposit with such Board the Bonds or~.Certificates of the United
States~ Of the State of New York~ or any County~ Town~ City~ Village
or School District of the State of New York as security for such
funds 'so deposited but such bonds or certificates shall be subject
to the approval of fha Town Board and shall be deposited in such
place and ~eid under such conditions as the Town Board may determine~

~EREAS~ Section 62 of the Town Law requires that every Town Board
shall meet on or after the 28th day of December, but not later than
the 31st day of December~ in each year~ and
WHEREAS~ There is no other time specified by law when meetings of the
Town Board of a Second Class Town shall be held~ now therefore be it
RESOLVED~ That the Supervisor be and here is empowered to call all
meetings of the Town Board as may 'be required for the best interest
of the Town~ and be it further
RESOLVED~ That the Supervisor designate Tuesday as the day of the
week for calling such meetings~ and be it further
RESOLVED~ That each member of the Town Board be given at least 2
days notice in advance of such meeting~ notice to contain the time
and place where such meeting is to be held.

own automobiles in the performance of their duties for the Town
will be compensated for the use of such automobiles in the amount
not exceed eight cents ($,08) per mile.

RESOLVED~ That the LonE Island Trave!er~ Mattituck Watchman~
Southo~d~ New York~ be and hereby is~ effective as of February i~
1960~ designated as the official newspaper to publish the notice of
the Receiver of Taxes that he is in receipt of such tax and
assessment roll and warrants~ and that the taxes and assessments
therein may be paid to the Receiver at the times 'and with penalty
other than his principal office when and where he will attend
for the receiot of taxes and assessments in accordance with Section
22 of the Suffolk Ceunty Tax Act~ and all other legal notices as
may be necessary and required in accordance with Section 64~ Sub-
division 1i of the Town Law.

RESOLVED That the Southoid Town Superintendent of Highways be and
he hereby is'authorized to purchase for the use of the Town~
equipment~ ~oois~ snowplows and other implements and devices
without prior approval of the Town Board of the Town Of Souzhold
in an amount not to exceed Five Hundred-($500.OO) Dollars during
the period January i~ 1960 to December 3t~ 1960.

the Post Office in Southoldr not to exceed $3~800.00.

WHEREAS~ The Commissioners of the Fishers Island Ferry'District
have entered into a lease with the New York~ New Haven and Hart-
ford Railroad leasing certain portions by the ~erry District
in New London for a term of l0 years at an annual rental of $100.O0;
subject to the approval of the Southold Town Board.
Now Therefore Be It RESOLVED~ that the Town Board of the Town'of
Southold does he~rehy approve of the action taken hy the Board~ of
Commissioners cT Fishers Island Ferry District and hereby authorize
and direct the Supervisor of~the Town of Southold to approve said
Lease.

District has by contract retained the firm of Johnson~ Dougherty
& Williams of New London~Conn. to perform a~diting and accounting.
service for said District effective January ir !960 to December
3i~ 1960, at the annual fee of $900.00 to be paid quarterly.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVEDr Tha't the Southold Town Board approves
said contract and hereby authorizes and empowers the Supervisor
of the Town of Southo~d to execute said contract.

RESOLVED~ That Walter F. Griffinr Sr. be engaged under contract
to provide a mail transfer and haulage service for the Fishers
Island Ferry District for the period January I~ 1960 through_Dec-
ember 31r:1960 inclusiver in accordance with the terms and con-
ditions as prescribed by the Board of Commissioners.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVEDr That the effective date of such service
shall be January 1~ 1960 and the amount of compensation for such
service shall be One-hundred Fifteen Dollars ($iI~.00) per month~
payable monthly.

WHEREAS the Manager of the Fishers Island Ferry District has sub-
mitted the name of Carl Christensen for the position titled
Junior Clerk of the Fishers Island Ferry District.
BE IT RESOLVED~ That Carl Christensen is hereby appointed Junior
Clerk of the Fishers island Ferry District with compensatio~ of
$1.25 per hour as established by resolution dated September i3r
i9¢6 Said compens'ation to be payable on a monthly basis and
not ~o exceed the annual sum of $700.00 and be it further
RESOLVED that said appointment be effective January Ir 1960.

Whereas the Town Board of the Town of Southoid~ Suffoik County~
New York~ bein~ apprised of the increase of Golden Nematode
infestation of the f~rm land of Southold Town and also in the
farm land of other towns of Suffolk County~ and furthermore that
this infestation~poses a serious threat to the economy and well
being of the residents of Southold Town and the other towns of
Suffolk County be it
RESOLVED That the Town Board of the Town of Southoid does strongly
urge,that the State of New York and the United States Government~
not only continue the oresent program for the control and
eradication of the Golden Nematode but also expand and expedite
this proMram so that this serious threat to the agriculture of
this area as well as the whole nation may be speedily and
