MINUTES OF HEARING ON EXTENSION OF F.I.FIRE DISTRICT
Mr. Klipp opened hearing on the extension of the Fishers Island
Fi~e District to include all of Fishers Island including former
Fort Wright area, excluding only the land owned by the U. S.
Government. After reading the notice of the hearing, Mr. Klipp
asked if anyone wished to speak in favor of the extension.
Mr. H. Lee Ferguson, Jr.: "I think Mr. Jansen Noyes, ~r. was
going to speak for Race Point Corporation which owns the land at
the Fort exclusive of the Town and Government owned land. Since Mr.
Noyes, Jr. is not here I, as Vice President of Rac~ Point Corp.,
speak for them to say they are very much in favor of th~ Fire District
being extended to include that pmrtion of the former Fort H. G.
Wright property G the reason is that Race Point Corporation owns
a considerable number of buildings and would like fire protection
and would expect to pay a share of the taxes to the District."
Mr. E. Perry Edwards: "I am in favor of it for coverage and pro-
tection which it will give to Town property as well as the Race
Point property."
Since no one else spoke in favor of the extension, Mr. K!ipp asked
if anyone wished to speak in opposition.
No response.
Hearing closed at 1:40 P.M.
Minutes of the hearing were recorded by Lucy J. Ahman.
Supervisor KliPP inquired if therew were any problems the Fishers
Island people would like to discuss.
Mr. Buckner stated that the mosquito situation on Fishers Island
was bad this year. Mr. Williamson reported that the mosquito situ-
ation on Fishers Island was very promising this year, the mosquitoes
have been kept down. He also stated that the mosquitos are very
prevalent at times over certain areas.
There were discussions on docks and private highways, County high-
ways and Town Highways. The Supervisor stated that in order to
take over highways that were not dedicated to the Town it would
be necessary for the property owners to sign a release.
