HomeMy WebLinkAboutTB-03/11/1975SOUTHOLD TOWN BOARD MINUTES Meeting of March 11, 1975 The Southold Town Board met at the office of Supervisor Albert Martocchia, 16 South Street, Greenport, ~ew York , at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 11, 1975, with the following present: Supervisor Albert M. Martocchia Justice Martin Suter Justice Louis M. Demarest Councilman James H. Rich, Jr. Councilman James Homan Town Attorney Robert W. Tasker Highway Superintendent Raymond C. Dean Town Clerk Albert W. Richmond Absent: Justice Francis T. Doyen On motion of Councilman Rich, seconded by Justice Suter, it was RESOLVED that the minutes of the Southold Town Board meetinqs of February 25, 1975 and March 4, 1975 be approved as submitted. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Ric~, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. On motion of Jus'tice Suter, seconded by Councilman Homan, it was RESOLVED that the next regular meeting of the southold Town Board will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, March 25, 1975 at the office of Supervisor A£Dert M. Martocchia, 16 South Street, Greenport, New York. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Surer, Justice Demarest. On motion of Justice Suter, seconSed by Justice Demarest, it was RESOLVED that the' February reports of the Building Department, Supervisor Martocchia, Justice Suter and Town Clerk Richmond be accepted and placed on file. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. On motion of Justice Demare~t, seconded by Councilman Honda, it was RESOLVED that the Fishers Island Ferry District be granted permission to advertise for bids to over-haul the port engine on the M/V Olinda, and that such advertisement appear in the prpper newspapers,including the official newspaper of the Town of Southold, the Suffolk Times. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. On motion of Councilman Rich, seconded by Councilman Homan, it was RESOLVED that this meeting be recessed at 3:30 P.M. for a public hearing on Local Law No. 1 - 1975, minutes of which were taken by Muriel Bnm~h. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Richr Councilman Homan, Justice Surer, Justice DemareSto Meeting reconvened at 3:45 P.M. Moved by Conncilman Homan, seconded by Justice Suter, WHEREAS the following local law being proposed Local Law No. 3 - 1075 was heretofore introduced at this meeting by a member of thisBoard, said local law being as follows, to wit: LOCAL LA~ NO. ~k 1975 A Local Law in relation to expenses of certain Town Officers while attendance at meetings. Be it enacted by the Town Board of the Town of Southold as follows: Section 1. All actual and necessary expenses Of travel, meals and lodging of a member of the town board, planning board and board of appeals, who resides at Fishers Island, in the Town of Southold, incurred in connection with the attendance of such member at official meetings of said boards at a p~ace in the Town other than at Fishers Island, shall be a charge against the Town of Southold, and the amount of such expenses shall be audited, allowed and paid in the same manner as other claims against the Town of Southold. Section 2. This local law shall take effect emmediately. NOW, Tt~EREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that a public hearing be held by this board with respect to the adoption of the aforesaid local law at the Supervisor~s ~ffice, 16 South Street, Greenport, New York at 3:30 o'clock P.M. on the 8th day of April, 1975, and it is further R~SOLVED that~the Town Clerk be and he hereby is authorized and di~rected to cause public notice of said hearing to be given as orovided by law. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. On motion of Justice Suter, seconded by Councilman ~man, ~EREAS Sophie T~ Saunders has applied to the Town Board for a single trailer renewal permit dated March 10, 1975, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the application of Sophie T. Saunders to locate a single trailer on her property on the north side of Main Road, Laurel, New York, be renewed for a period of six (6) months. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Hogan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. On motion of Justice Suter, seconded by Councilman Homan, WHEREAS Florence Steiner has applied to the Town Board for a single trailer renewal permit dated February 19, 1975, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the application of Florence Steiner to lo~ate a sing~ trailer on her property on private road (John's Road), off east side Main Road, Mattituck, NSw York, be renewed for a period of six (6) months. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. On m~tionof Justice Suter, seconded by Justice Demarsst, WHEREAS Zdzislaw Mikolajczyk has applied to the Town Board for a single trailer renewal permit dated January 28, 1975,Q ~OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the application of Zdislaw Mikolajczyk to locate a single trailer on the south side of private road, off east side Main Road, Mattituck, New York be t~newed for a period of ~ix (6) months. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, ~ouncilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. 8n motion of Justice Suter, seconded by Justice Demarest, ~t was RESOLVED that the Southold Town Board approves the amount of $380,000.00 bond estimate for the subdivision known as "Pebble Beach Farms." Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. On motion of Justice Suter, seconded by Justice Demarest, it was RESOLVED that Boy Scout Troop ~39, be granted permission to clean up the area around Laurel Lake provided there is sufficient insurance coverage. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. On motion of Justice Suter,. seconded by Councilman Homan, it was RESOLVED that this T~wn Board meeting be recessed at 4:10 P.M. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. Meeting reconvened at 5:00 p.m. On motion of Councilman Hogan, seconded by Councilman Rich, it was RESOLVED that the following bills be approved: General bills in the amount of $26,703.18; Highway bills in the amount of $13,714.49; Fishers Island Ferry District bills in the amount of $29,304.05; Special District bills in the amount of $13,485.45; and Federal Revenue Sharing bills in the amount of $5,548.32. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: ~pervisor Martoc~hia, Councilman Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. On motion of Councilman Homart, seconded by Justice Suter, it was RESOLVED that Supervisor Albert Mo Mattocchia be and he hereby is authorized to purchase a C.B. radio for the police boat at a sum not to exceed $225.00. Vote of the Town Board: Ayes: Supervisor Martocchia, Councilm~n Rich, Councilman Homan, Justice Suter, Justice Demarest. Mr. William Chudiak, representing the Long Island Farm Bureau, In~. protested the proposed leash law, stating that farmers are against it. Eight students from Sacred Heart School, Cutchogue, lead by Jimmy Berdinka, Michael Kober, and Joe Mitchell, preSeRted a petition containing 330 $&~natures in opposition to the proposed.leask law. Mr. Walter Kohnle, a member of the Association of Allied Councils urged the Town Board to adopt the New York State Building ~ode, and presented a survey .conducted by a fact finding committe of the C~nncil. Greenport Village offered the use of Clarks Beach to the Town of Southold, but the offer was refused. Meeting adjourned at 5:10 P.M. Albert W. Richmond Town Clerk
