The building was built in the 1800's,and had a small addition added sometime after. OHS wants to demolish the small addition and add a new humongous 1,831 SE, concrete addition with standing seam steel roof. It's massive and not compatible with surrounding buildings and local architecture. The obnoxious 1,831 SE addition will be 15' away from neighboring property, the overhang and MEP room doors (when open)will make it be less than 151. It's larger and has a higher roofline than neighbors property as well. This addition will be covering 100% of one of the neighbors property and approximately 50%+1-of the other neighboring property. We feel they will be devaluing the neighboring properties and the neighborhood. This will be built on a grade level concrete slab. They claim this is the highest point on the property. That may be however, the neighbors have had water come up to their property line during a hurricane.Insurance is hard to get and keep. It's also in a closer proximity to the bay than where the archives are now. We feel it should be 50' away from the neighboring back yard as per Southold code for backyard setbacks. They are calling it the"side"and will only require the 15' setback. They are using an old right-of-way as a"secondary front". They already have 6 large buildings,3 sheds and an outhouse on the property in a R-40 residential zone of 1.42 acres. None of those buildings are properly following setback guidelines. There is also a Copper Beach Tree close to the construction. (Don't know if that will be severely trimmed or cut down). The tree is very old and was planted in the memory of A.Nelson Chapman, the 1st president of the OHS. There are also Endangered Northern Long Ear Bats in the vicinity. On the EAF survey there was or is hazardous waste on the property or adjoining property. They said they are not aware of any. I have a FOIL into the NYS DEC to find out proper information; however,I will not have a response back from them until the end of August. i 1Iisro;is Preservation Commission , Zoning Board of Appeals,Planning Board, and Southold To1vn Building ;r 1ppiWation of Oysterponds Historical Society (Samuel Vail House) P eiiiiscs: Landmark Property- 1555 Village Lane Orient,New York 11957 SCTM# 1000-25-3-16.1 j7/C are asking you to please NOT ALLOW THIS TO CONTINUE. OHS purchased the property adjacent to us in 1966, Samuel Vail property in 1971, and combined all three parcels in 1979. We have been respectful neighbors unlike OHS. We have never complained about anything, or have tried to stop them from placing their buildings incorrectly on the Property and too close to property lines. Never stopped them from putting in ramps to close to property lines. We have never complained that they had pig roasts and we have to leave our home due to the smoke as my wife and my mother-law had asthma. When they would park cars adjacent to the Red Barn, people would park on my lawn (We had no fence). Loud band nights, cocktail parties, 18th century day, jazz bands, video showings, sales, parades, etc, etc. Never complained when their tenant(lived in Samuel Vail home) s,vould throw her dog waste on my shed roof and bones in my yard that made our own dog sicIt. We have had enough! We went from a no fence to a split rail fence (people would come in and sit on the fence) to a stockade fence. It would be nice to not need a fence anymore. There is no fence high enough to fix this problem. 1 This building is larger and taller than our home. It is so close to the property line it is suffocating. It's ugly, cold, and looks like a commercial industrial warehouse. It does 11-ot fit in with the quaint historic community. It will greatly lower our property value. It will ci)ver 100% of one lot and approximately 50%+/-other lot. It will block us from breezes and sunsets as well. NVe feel that we have had many years of use and enjoyment of our property taken away from us due to OHS and their disrespect of their neighbors. We respectfully ask you to not allow this special exception. Thank ,you for your consideration. Respectfully, Joseph M. Andrade,Jr Jeffrey C. Andrade Jill M. Franke f_gien B. Franke Jonna L.
