No / Tax payers buy development rights on preserved land through Southold Town.The new code introduces commercial processing on preserved land, including canning and bottling the produce. That is done in a building for processing. Second building is for storing product.It could be the use of freezers, etc. The third structure is for retail. Question: Since this is commercial, do they pay taxes? Definition of “ local” needs to be included. Local meaning “ in Southold” What happened to the scenic view sheds communities wanted in the comprehensive plan? We have “ boutique “ farms with residents surrounding the. Hard to manage. Q2: Land Use & Zoning: Do these updates make sense for how you want to see land used in Southold? No Q3: Which zoning rules or land-use changes—if any—don’t work for you? Bouncy houses and skating rinks, etc. are not farm related. Needs to be removed from code. MUST HAVE PAID ST employees monitor farms for compliance. Q4: Housing & Affordability: Do the updates support the kind of housing you believe Southold needs? Yes Q5: What—if anything—would make housing options better for you and your neighbors? Garden apartments. Housing in center of town . Walkability. Buses rerouted to include new affordable apartments. Q6: Natural Resources & Environmental Protection: Do these updates adequately protect Southold’s natural resources, such as water, wildlife, and woodlands? No Q7: If not, what else would you like to see in the zoning code for environmental conservation? Purchase more open space Carve out areas for possible purchase. Q8: Community Character & Historic Preservation: Do these zoning updates help retain the character of the Southold you know and love? No Q9: If not, what do you think could be improved to preserve Southold’s unique charm? Limit hotels. Roads too crowded. Q10: Traffic, and Safety. Do the proposed zoning updates adequately address concerns related to traffic congestion and pedestrian safety? No Q11: If not, what changes would you recommend to improve or prevent further traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety in Southold? Need to control lights at intersections to adjust to weekend travel. Route 58 needs to install a fence in the median. Then traffic will not have to stop in both directions for school bus pickups, etc. Q12: Support for Agriculture: Do the zoning updates provide sufficient protections for Southold’s farming industry and farmland preservation? No Q13: If not, what changes would you suggest to further support agriculture and prevent the conversion of farmland to non-agricultural uses? Land Preservation Committee has 5 farmers and only 2 no farmers. Very unbalanced group with farmers pushing agendas . Committee Chair and the LPC paid employee are related which gives chairperson greater control. Agricultural Committee has all farmers. Land Preservation Committee has 5 out of 7 farmers. Unbalanced. Agratourism is taking over farmers. Then it becomes family fun places and not farming.
