THIS IS ,TO CERTIFY THAT THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION WAS
ADOPTED BY THE SOUTHOLD TOWN BOARD AT A REGULAR MEETING
HELD ON OCTOBER 12. 1999:
WHEREAS. H. Wells has offered to gift a parcel of land to the Town of
Southold under the Open Space program for land preservation; and~
WHEREAS, the Town Board of the Town of Southold held a public on the
question of the acquisition of the H. Wells property on the 12th day of
October, 1999 pursuant to the provisions of the Chapter 59, Open Space
Preservation of the Town Code of the Town of $outhold, at which time all
interested persons were given an opportunity to be heard; and
WHEREAS, the Town Board deems it in the public interest Chat the Town of
Southold acquire the H. Wells property; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED that the Town Board of the Town of Southold elects to accept
the H. Wells property, located on the easterly side of the terminus of Wells
Road, fronting on Richmond Creek, Peconic, New York, SCTM #
1000-086-02-012.1, consisting of approximately 1.0. acres, at a total price
of the costs associated with transfer of the title of land to be gifted.

JUSTICE EV~X_NS: "Notice is l~ereby given that pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 59, Open
space Presetw'ation of the Code of the Town of Sonthold, the Town 'Board of the Town of
Southold will hold a public hearing on the l? day of October, 1999, at 8:32 P.M., on the
question of the acceptance of the offer of H. Wells for acqttisition by the Town of Sonthold for
Open Space Preservation Purposes on the following described properties: Suffolk County Tax
Map No. 1000-86-02-012.t comprising approximately 1.4 acres, located on the easterly side of
the terminus of Wells Road, fronting on Ricl:nuond Creek, Peconic, New York. The total price
would be costs associated xvith transfer of title of land to be gifted. Fttrther Notice is hereby
given that a more detailed description of the above mention parcel of land is on file in the
Southold Town Clerk's Office, Southold To~vn Hall, 53095 Main Road, Southold, New York,
and may be exanfined by any interested person during business hours. Dated: September 28,

There is an affidavit that it was published in the Suffolk Times, and that it was placed on the
Town Clerk's Bulletin Board. There is a Short Envirom-nental Assessment Form, and no
correspondence.
DICK RYAN: My name is Dick Ryan, and I am yom' Chairman of your Tox~m of Southold Land
Preservation Committee. Mr. Wells has offered to give the property by application to the
Corm'nittee on September of 1999. Further the Planning Board has advised the Land Preservation
Committee of its approval of the proposed ~ft. The proposed gift parcel is also designated as Lot
5 of a minor snbdivision for Wells Estate approved by the Planning Board in July of 1972. The
area of the proposed ~ft fronts on Wells Road. It also has frontage on the east side of the npper
reaches of Richmond Creek. It is mostly comprised of tidal wetlands and provides views of the
waters and shoreline of Richmond Creek. The land parcel is also located opposite lands formerly
of the Peconic Land Trust over which the Town of Southold now holds the development rights
easemem. Some will remember this land as a former Fiore Farm, now owned by Pellegrini
Vineyards. The Lane Preservation Comnfittee urges the Town Board to accept the offer of the
charitable ~ft of this 1.4 acre property pursuant to provisions of Chapter 59 of the To~m Code.
In doing so I ask the Town Board to also give ac rknowledgement to the charity and concerns for
his neighbors md residents of the Town of Southold by ~k. Wells' generous offer.

My name is Dick Ryan I am your Chairman of the Town of Southold Land Preservation
'Committee_ The area of the subject.parcel under consideration~ is located at the end of Wells
Road in the Hara[et of Peconic.
,,~/Ir~ _ Wells has offered to give the property, by application to the Committee in September 1999.
~ Further, tlae Planning Board has advised the Land Preservation Committee ofits approval of the
proposed gift.
The Committee Moved a recommendation to accept the gi~ of the approximately 1.4 acres of the
property, as is Shown on the map before you, for open space purposes pursuant to the provisions
of Chapter 59 - Open Space Preservation of the Town Code.
~ The proposed gift-parcel is also designated a Lot 5 ora Minor Subdivision for George H. Wells
Est., approved by the Planning Board in Suly I972.
,,¢,The area of the proposed gift fronts on Wells Road. It also has frontage on the East Side of the
upper reaches of Richmond Creek. It is mostly comprised of tidal wetlands and provides v/ews of
the waters and skoreline of Richmond Creek. The land parcel is also located opposite lands
formerly oftl/e Peconic Land Trust, over which the Town of Southold holds a Development
Rights easement. Some will remember this land as the former Fiore farm, now owned by Pelligrini
Vineyards.
Because of the factors of wetlands and scenic vistas, this 1.4-acre parcel is of significant
importance to the open space character of this location. The Land Preservation Committee
recommends the ,acceptance of the proposed gift of ownership to the lands here described.
Town-ownership of these lands will most-certainly preserve mad enhance the quiet, rural character
of this area of Peconic and the Town of Southold.
fi'The Land Preservation Committee urges the Town Board to accept the offer ora charitable gi~ of
this 1.4-acre property, pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 59 of the Town Code, entitled
"Open Space Preservation". In doing so, I ask the Town Board to als0 give due acknowledgment
to the charity and concern for his neighbors and residents of the Town of Southold, evidenced by
Mr. Well's generous offer.
