Present were: Carol Brown, Chairperson Maggie Merrill, Member Nancy May, Member Burke Liburt, Member Barbara Friedman, Member Lauren Standish, Secretary Absent: Inga Van Eysden, Member Brian Mealy, Town Board Liaison Liz Gillooly, Trustee Liaison Jocelyn Kaelin; Student Member Yan Albaladejo, Student Member Guest: Randy Wade CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Carol Brown called the meeting to order at 4:40pm. ANNOUNCEMENTS Due to health reasons, John Chandler'has resigned from the CAC. John's knowledge and contributions were invaluable and he will be missed. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Moved by Maggie Merrill, seconded by Barbara Friedman, to Approve the Minutes of June 4, 2025. 4 2 REPORTS The ribbon cutting of the Monarch Butterfly Waystation was held on June 13th-at Custer Preserve, which qualifies as a pledge element. The CAC discussed the possibility of collaborating with PEP next year to establish a native plant learning garden in front of Town Hall. Carol Brown and Barbara Friedman attended a Shoreline Summit hosted by PEP and Sea Grant. Mark Terry was on the panel and discussed the LWRP. Bob DeLuca was also on the panel and his talking points included ways to avoid hardening of the shoreline. Nancy May attended the Board of Trustees meeting on June 11th. The applications made on behalf of 3705 Duck Pond Road and 190 Fisherman's Beach Road were Tabled. CLIMATE SMART COMMUNITIES The rain barrels and composter bins will be ready for pick-up at the Transfer Station on July 26th ZONING UPDATE Members of the CAC participated in the Zoning Update meeting on July 2"d with the Environmental Focus Groups. The meeting went well and a lot of interesting ideas were shared. The CAC feels strongly that the overlay districts should be included, if not, it's a missed opportunity. The CAC members reviewed the draft Zoning Update letter to the Town Board, citing environmental and conservation impacts. Moved by Burke Liburt, seconded by Maggie Merrill, it was RESOLVED to accept the letter and send to the Town Board, as amended. Vote of Council: Ayes: All Motion Carried OTHER BUSINESS Resident's Guide-Carol Brown is waiting for the latest draft from Yan Albaladejo. SCWA-Proposed North Fork Pipeline Project—the CAC members drafted a letter to the SCWA with items and issues regarding the proposed pipeline project. Carol Brown will finalize the letter with the recommended changes relating to environmental and conservation issues, and forward to the SCWA by the deadline. Moved by Barbara Friedman, seconded by Maggie Merrill, it was RESOLVED to accept the letter to the SCWA, as amended. 3 Vote of Council: Ayes: All Motion Carried Burke Liburt volunteered to design a poster regarding PFAS: What we can do about them, specific to where we are. Randy Wade, resident of the Village of Greenport, attended the meeting. She is Petitioning to Ban Gas Powered Leaf Blowers. The Village of Greenport has banned them completely. She will share her back-up data and the CAC will put a proposal on the table for the Town Board. The CAC members will also share any information they have compiled with Carol Brown as she prepares the draft. Nancy May will attend the Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for Wed., July 16, 2025. The next meeting of the Conservation Advisory Council is scheduled for Wed, August 6, 2025 at 4:30PM in the Conference Room.
