The business located on this property is known as the `Hellenic Restaurant". Our families purchased this property in 1976. Prior to that, it was known as `Brown's Cabins and Snack Bar", and was a staple on the North Fork for over a century. It has recently come to our attention that the Board had made some proposed changes to the current Zoning profile affecting our property along with others. Being concerned and not a little confused by the proposals, I called and then visited the Planning Board last week. Jessica Michaelis was nice enough to email me all the relevant information I needed and was gracious enough to highlight the areas of the zoning change that would affect us. While I understand that the proposed changes will not affect our ability to operate a restaurant or sell the premises as a restaurant, I am curious as to why Hellenic back in the 1990's was bumped down in zoning from "Business" to Limited Business"; and , now the Board is proposing another bump down from Limited business to R132. This will profoundly affect the value of our property. I bring this up because there are a few of our neighbors , specifically, " The Lin House" and "Angel's Country Store" , both of whom are on the Main Road, among others, who are getting a beneficial bump up in their zoning, from limited business to "Commercial". Why would these businesses benefit and ours have to suffer? I am not sure I understand. I am puzzled and troubled by what seems to be an arbitrary choice in the reshaping our zoning profile again. If I am missing something here, please let me know. I do not profess to understand all the policies and concerns the Board must consider in formulating their proposals. Both George Giannaris and 1, are the Sons of the two men ( now both deceased) who purchased this property. The business has been family owned for 49 years now. Next year, we will celebrate our 50th anniversary. We both have homes on the North Fork as well. So, we feel a certain responsibility to bring these issues to your attention.
