Some cutting of lumber may be required during assembly of this kit. Due to the rough
sawn lumber that we build from, a 1/4"variance is common. Extra lumber is included
to compensate . Fascia and Shadow Trim boards are generally sent long to be cut to a
tight fit. If a tight fit is desired on siding boards,cutting will be required, extra material
is included for this.

Concrete Slab
Step 1. You may also use a concrete slab for your building To
to sit on. Begin with a prepared compacted gravel pad.
Figure 1. Your gravel pad should be at least a foot larger
than the concrete pad on all sides. For example, if your
concrete pad will be 288"x 432", your gravel pad should be
312"x456"square and level. We recommend using a transit to
level your site.
Step 2. Build your form. Figure 2. The form will be the
barrier that will stop your concrete from spreading, so the
interior dimensions of the form should be the exact dimensions Figure 1
of the building. For example, for a 24x24 Garage,the interior
dimensions of your forms should be288'x288".
Step 3. Once your form is created, it will need to be squared.
To square your frame, measure diagonally from corner to
corner. When the measurements are equal,the frame is
squared. Brace your squared frame by nailing a piece of
lumber from corner to corner on top of the form. This will
keep your frame squared until it is pegged.
Step 4. Continue by hammering 2x2 pointed pegs at 3'
intervals,giving the perimeter of the slab more depth and %
strength, as it will be supporting your building walls. if your
building calls for a third,center, skid, dig a center trench 12"
wide by 8"deep, so the concrete will be thicker to support this
third skid as well. Figure 2
Step 6. Lay a 6 millimeter vapor barrier on top of the gravel
pad inside your form. The vapor barrier should extend along
the entire bottom of your pad, into your trenches and up the
sides to the top of your form. `� ' , ,� , ,,:•f
Step 7. Reinforce your pad with wire mesh. Cut the pieces of
the steel wire mesh to length. The pieces should be cut so that,
when in place,the edges will be 3 inches away from the form.
To eliminate the mesh curl,flip the mesh sheet over and place
it in the form opposite the way it was rolled up. Overlap each
mesh sheet and twist the cut ends together to join them. Space
bricks out evenly under the mesh throughout the form. Be sure ,
the edges of the mesh are at least 3 inches away from the form.

Cutting & Installing the Battens
Your battens should be left packaged until ready
to use. Do not allow battens to be exposed to the
elements, sun or rain.
4x4 Top plate XXX),•- XX Battens are installed over the seam where two siding
boards meet. Figure- 1.
Install battens after all trim is done. Battens will fit
up to the fascia and around the windows. Figure 2.
2 Nails each
Using the 6d galvanized nails,nail battens with a
pattern of 2 nails side by side in the same increments
as the siding,nailing into the floor and rim joists,
XXX X horizontal nailers,top plates and rafters. On small
battens, one nail will suffice.
2x4 nailer
Do not nail into knots,as this will cause the wood to
split.
Some battens are supplied long and will need
2X6 floor joist I XXX '` XX trimming for a tight fit. Look for angle cut battens
for the gable ends.

Plumbing Ratters
After the rafters are installed they need to be plumbed.Create a brace by nailing 2-12'2x4's together.Use
2x4x36"pieces to span the joint and nail on each side. Figure-1
Attach the brace to the ridge and extend down to the floor at a 45 degree angle. Push on the brace to bring
the rafters to plumb and then attach the bottom of the brace to a 2x4 block on the floor. Figure-2
