Subject: Proposed Changes in Cutchogue
Hi,
As a owner of almost 50 acres on Oregon Road, I am writing to express my disappointment at the proposed code
changes from Light Industrial to an Industrial Zone from Rt 48 to Oregon Road and from Cox to Depot Lane.
The Town and County have spend alot of money purchasing development rights on Oregon Road to preserve both its
agricultural heritage and its scenic beauty. An Industrial Zone can have both commercial and industrial businesses such
as a nail salon, medical office, dry cleaner or cannabis dispensary which not only would drive more traffic to this area (
and subsequently noise) but would also ruin the scenic value of the area.
Cox Lane is often flooded after rainstorms and would be dangerous with added traffic. With the increased population
density following Covid, Oregon Road is already strained with additional traffic. What was once a bucolic road populated
with farm vehicles, now very often has cars speeding in excess of 50 mph.
It would make more sense to keep these types of businesses along the Rt 48 corridor.
Thank you,
Barbara Close
