As stated previously, we have never constructed a home in Southold Town. We believed we were in full compliance and following all appropriate guidelines. We were unaware that there was an expiration for our permit. Our permit and all associated paperwork didn't have an expiration. Also, we never received any notices from,Southold Town stating that it would be expiring. As a matter of fact, during our conversation, you mentioned that since you took over office the building permit procedure was changed and expiration dates are now incorporated. We've been paying full taxes for over a year on a house that isn't even complete. We've been struggling financially to finish these remaining projects as we hadn't anticipated paying taxes much higher than the estimate we were originally given when our plans were submitted. Upon going to Town Hall in good conscience to pay our taxes after not receiving our bill after two phone calls, I stopped in to clarify what remaining items would be required for a`final inspection. You can imagine my shock and disbelief to learn that we would not only have to pay the original filing fee in full for the final phase of our inspection but that the fee had increased to$2,495!! We feel this fee would place an unreasonable financial burden on our family and set us back even more. We would appreciate your utmost consideration in this matter in trying to reach a fair and equitable solution.
