M~:ETING. OF M~%RCH 7, 1956.
A sDeciaI meeting of the Town Beard was held at the office of
Supervisor Norman Eo Klipp at Greenport, on Wednesday, March
7, 1956.. The meeting was called to order, at 1:45 P.M. with the
~ roi!owing present: Supervisor Klipp; Justices Tuthitl~ Clark
and Demarest and Edwards~ Councilman Albertson, ~uper~ntendent
of Highways Price~ Town Attorney Terry and Town ~lerk Booth.
Also present were the CommisSioners of the Fishers Island
~erry District~ A. John Gada~ Chairman, Elmore V. Kee~ Polly
Edmonds, Lawrence Baldwin, Rowland OswAld and Wilfred~inct~ir, Mgr.
The purpose of this meetingwas for the Commissioners of the
Fishers Island Ferry District to meet with the Town Board for
approval f~m them to sell the greater part of the water front
property purchased from the New York~ New Haven and Hartfort
Railroad Company, at the foot of State Street, in New London,
Co~n. to the City of New London, rather tbs a long term lease
of same .Tne Ferry District to retain all of the property
purchased from the Fishers Island Navigation Co. and enough of
the Tailroad property to insure sufficient docking facilities
for the present as well as provide space for future expansion
should time warrant. Also to ha~e the o~ dock in New London
removed by Marine Equipment.
To take title to the Fort H. G. Wright area south of and includ-
ing ~istler Ave. together with a portion of property on
Silver Eel Harbor for docking facilities and all utilities~
providing that title to such utilities are immediately trans-
ferred to the utility companies on Fishers Island.
To transfer title of a pzrtion of the Fort Wright area located
at Race Rock Point to the U. S. Nays at the time that the Ferry
District takes title to the Airfield and adjacent facilities
from the U. S. Army. The Town Board was favorable if the fore-
going acts were found to be legal and approved by the Town
Attorney.
