A special joint meeting of the Southold Town Board and Southold
Town Trustees was held at the office of Supervisor Norman E.
Klipp at Greenport, on Thursday, January 26, 1956. The meeting
was called to order at 8 o'clock P.M. with the following present:

Frank D~wson~ John McNnlty~ Al~a~ Goldsmith and Philip Weiler.
The Supervisor~called~the meeting for the purpose of consider-
lng the To~m Trustees request that escallops not h~v'~ng.a ~
clearly define8 annual growth line be allowed to be t~ken from
Gidds B~y and Mill Creek.
WHEREAS, The Town Board of Trustees of the Town of SouthOld
having jurisdiction of the l~nds underwater in the Tew~ of
Southold have brought to the attention of the Southold~i~T~wn
B~r~ that scallops not having ~ clearly defined ann~l~growth
line ~re dying ~nd will continue to die in Mill Creek atll
Arshamoma~ue, New York~ and Gidd's~Bay, ~t Orient, ~ew~y~rk,
~nd have requested the Supervisor and the Town Board to take
whatever steps they deem necessary to salvage such scallops~ and
WHEREAS, It is the feeling of the Southold Town Board that many
families could derive a livelihood fro~ such ac~ion~ ~nd 'failure
to open the two above mentioned areas would seriously affect
the economy of the Town of Southold, now~ therefore, be it
RESOLVED: That the Supervisor be~ and he hereby is~ directed
to request the Commissioner of Conservation to issue wi~hthe
least pollible delay an order allowing scallops not having a
clearly defined annual growth line to be taken and po~essed
from
(1) That area commonly known as Mill Creek at Arshamomaque,
New York, from New York State Route 25 Bridge north~ and
(2) That a~ea commonly known ~s G~dd's Bay, 0riaat~ New York,
northerly of a straight line drawn between Peter's Neck Point
and Brown Point,
in an amount not exceeding 5 bushels per person per day for
